Clermont County

Hi! Was looking for some feedback from my fellow hunters. Just picked up a farm in Clermont County on the Clermont/Brown County line near the cities of Utopia and Felicity. Habitat was real nice but was wondering if anyone knew what to expect in the area for buck potential? I've done a lot of research but other than the DNR numbers of harvest, haven't been able to find much. Also, does anyone know how the turkey population is in that area. Didn't see a whole lot of turkey sign. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A friend has a farm in Brown county and has good harvest of bucks and does for the family members every year. Seems he says lots of turkey sightings. Seen some nice bucks pictures he and family members have take there.

What area are you from? Because that's a good area for both turkey and deer... It's no Stark county, but depending what you are used to, it might be better.

Not many places can measure up to Stark anyway Dave!

Hey, I hunted down there near Felicity back in the mid to late 90's and there were some dandy bucks back then and prolly still is. Like every area some get hit much harder than others and some have more safe havens sprinkled within to give bucks more chance to mature. You'll have great genes in that area so it's just a matter of will many be able to reach their potential.

Thanks for the replies... greatly appreciated! I'm live about 30 min N of Detroit. Born and raised in OH and have lots of family there but moved up to MI due to work. Buddy of mines friend was looking to lease out his property and he told him I was looking to hunt OH so I got the opportunity that way. Saw an aerial and really liked the layout. Looked at it on Saturday and thought it looked like it had potential. Landowner didn't seem to know much about deer hunting so wasn't able to give me a lot of info. Grew up in the Northern part of OH, Cleveland area and have mostly hunted up that way. I know the Southern part of OH is a known producer but wasn't to familiar with Clermont. Mostly have heard of the Muskingum, Coshocton and Adams County type areas of producing the big bucks but know anywhere in OH can definitely do so. Can't wait for spring turkey season and the fall. Thanks again for the info!

I'd say just about any county in Ohio has some pockets which produce "good bucks". I honestly believe it is the luck of the draw. Some properties have the "it" factor while others do not. My property is perfect in regards to aerials, close proximity to some known monsters, and good bedding nearby feeding areas. Sadly, the guys that hunt the surrounding properties have all the bucks blown out and nocturnal a week before the season. I've been told there were 3 deer hit and never recovered last year by just one guy. It is pretty sad.

Outstanding man! Has the property been unhunted then? Or is this just the first year he decided to lease? How many acres?
Thanks! The property has been hunted in the past but its the 1st year he's leased it. Believe he just gave people permission in the past. It's 200 acres with a good mix of agriculture and timber along with several creeks and 2 secluded ponds. It ultimately part of an 800 acre farm.

I agree with the any county in OH having potential but certain pockets being better. OH just does things right with the 1 buck and not having their gun season occur at the peak of the rut. Good habitat is definitely a key ingredient and its nice that you have it but unfortunate that you have the neighbor issues. Dealt with some bad hunting neighbors in the past... I feel for ya. And it is truly sad about 1 guy shooting several deer with no recovery

My personal property sucks. Then again, the squirrel hunting is fantastic!!! lol Good thing I bought the ground for the out building it already had. Also a good thing I have a couple of other properties I hunt which are pretty solid.

Tell you what, the added description you posted about the lease sounds awesome. Good luck man!

Sounds like a hell of a place. Depending on prior pressure, it might take a few years to be solid or could already be! Get some cams running and bring us along for the adventure.

Guy I worked with has a place in Feesburg. Not far from you. From the way he talked and the pics I seen I can assure you that there are big bucks in that area. Best of luck

We figured it may take a few years but hopefully it's a producer now. Either way, super excited and grateful for the opportunity! Excited to get to work on setting it up and doing all the fun stuff... putting out minerals, food plotting and running cams

Good deal. If you ever need a hand running a blood trail or dragging, don't be afraid to ask! I work evenings, so I'm available most mornings.
