Ok. It seems that these are just proposed bag limits from staff that the Wildlife Council has to vote on after a public comment period? Still time to make our voices heard.

I am shocked that Ohio doesn't have antlerless allocations per county or area so that they have someway to really control how many deer are taken. By this I mean for example in Stark county there would only be X number of antlerless licenses that could only be used in the county. Once those are sold that is it.

Yes the issue on both sides of the argument is usually what people see in their hunting area which for most is less than 1 sq mile. THey assume that everyone else's hunting area is exactly the same.

I understand what you are saying Frank and it is a fact. But we also know how much better is has been due to the restraint that used to be in effect. It can be that good again if there is just less tags and methods to be had. As I have said before....Most people are not going to see killing as wrong if they have the legal angle to lean on.

Yes, Frank, you are correct. It was the ODNR that built this herd also. We need to find a happy medium before it's to far gone though. No need to have the fluctuation as large as it has been. If they truly know that much about deer and the herd size, why is it bouncing all over? Why are hunters taking matters into their own hands? You have done exactly what you wanted on your land and the improvements have shown. That was your program, not the states.

Fast forward to 2000's and over 200,000 deer are taken every year.
Now in 2016 and only 182,00 deer are taken and the sky is falling in deer numbers.

I just don't see it. Sure there are less deer numbers now but when the numbers were a lot higher just maybe there were too many deer.
Ohio deer hunting is now damn good according to the old days before you were around to see the difference.

Frank, we were weaned in an era that you could hunt an entire season and maybe see one deer and that was the going rate for a lot of the state.... Fast forward we got spoiled when the deer hunter numbers were low and the deer population was high, all of a sudden it got easier and popular too deer hunt.... All the small game hunters (bird hunters mostly) who didn't hunt deer switched over too bigger game....
Now when we don't see deer every time we go out it's a bad day (this includes me as well) and we look at the mishandling of the deer herd.....

I have considered getting out of the those groups, your right some of these guys are clueless. Really really makes me wish we would eliminate crossbows and have to qualify with a compound to hunt sometimes.

I hear you on this, but what if we said those were guns and not archery equipment? As a gun owner, do you feel we should ban shotguns and have to qualify with muzzleloaders to hunt? Same thing. It's not the weapons fault, it's what the weapon can enable that is the issue. Crossbows ENABLE more people, particularly ones that won't put in the effort to shoot a compound or trad bow, and that is what causes the issues. Same with any vertical bow. We can all decide be the next Hoot Gibson, but if we don't put in the time, we'll never be able to carry his quiver. People are the problem, not the weapons.

I agree with Jesse. It is not the weapon. It is a combination of the weapon and the person carrying it. One has to know the limitations of both. I hunt with far from the latest and greatest crossbow on the market. But, I know its limitations and my shooting ability.

What irks me is so many people are always pushing the envelope. Taking that shot that they "hope" they can make. Some just so they can brag about the 74 yard shot they made, when it finally happens. But, they stick out their chest and say "look what I did". They forget about, or at least don't mention, all the misses and wounded animals that came prior to their "heroic" feat.

A man has to know his limitations... One of Clint Eastwoods famous sayings.. A lot of hunters gotta learn to put limitations on the amount of deer they kill... or they'll find themselves sitting home watching re-runs of Dirty Harry flicks... It's not the weapon.. Its the guy pulling the trigger...

I gotta love it when I hear or read on a forum the old story: Man.. I'm having a rough week on the farm I hunt... I haven't seen a single deer all season.. Can't believe it.. Another hard week of hunting and ZIPPO...NOTHING... Then the last day at last light a lone yearling steps out... BOOM,BOOM,BOOM ... I mean WTF..... You hunted all season and saw nothing... Then at last light you finally see a deer and just gotta shoot it.. WHERE ARE YOUR BRAINS????

If Miss double D's had to go out and do it "all on her own", she wouldn't shoot a chipmunk... Stopped watching hunting shows when The American Sportsman with Curt Gowdy stopped running... Hunting shows doing nothing but promoting big business... If you only know what goes on behind the scenes... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... Did I say money... I'm running up to Gander Mountain to get some Ted Nugent ammo later... Why??? Cause he says its the best... So it must kill deer deader than my Remington Core-Lokt's... Yup,, Gotta have it....

And they pound the philosophy of kill every doe that walks to grow bigger bucks idea and a lot of pro hunters kill "scrub bucks", we (majority of Ohio hunters) ain't in Texas with 1000 acres, killing a 2 year old 6 point and then claiming your controlling selective breeding is b.s (see this on facebook), you killed that deer because you wanted to.
