Yes, we were threatened the first time around when we were more vociferous about the lobbying and were specifically naming names. Like Joe said, there's no need to try and rally the troops by being so boisterous; the troops are ready. This time around, we leave the names out and we proceed with a "play nice in the sandbox" mantra. If we get threatened again, it's not going to be pretty...

Easy buddy. Go read the gun season numbers thread. We have two parallel conversations going. No one deleted posts.

Definitely!! I don't have a lot of time to give with a family and 2 jobs, but I'd gladly write a checkc and support the group as a paid member. I would hope the focal point would be conservation in the truest sense of the word.

One concern, haven't others who tried something like this been threatened to stop or cease, lest they face serious consequences (legal)? What if that rears its ugly head on this go around?

This is something that is needed. I see it as a monumental undertaking that will be hard to get into fruition. I hope it does. I'm always willing to offer my ideas, and as stated previously, my financial support.

This is where the alliance part comes in. We plan to collect hunter surveys and data and see what it says. If we find that we're right and this is something hunters want, and there is an issue to get behind, we're taking that to people we hope will be strategic partners. I'm not going to say who we've talked to so far because I don't want the people you speak of to give us the end around. But they're highly supportive, believe we're on to something, and so far support us. But they want to see the data and surveys first. If the data supports it the organization will have their full support and backing. The OWA will make a public debut backed by organizations who have been around since before I was born, and people who have been in this game far longer than us.

Precisely the reason we don't censor posts. Everyone is entitled to an equal opinion right wrong or indifferent. I think the entire 6 years this site is been up I've deleted maybe five posts and that's because they were over the top offensive.

This is one of the most emotionally charged subjects we have on this board, go to any social media site and it gets worse..... We deer hunters love our sport, to the point of loving it too death.... We see it from a narrow perspective in our own little world of the acreage we hunt.... Whether we hunt public or private lands, lease or travel to out of state locals.... At some point, the culture has to step back and look at our hunting from a broader aspect..... Not just the neighbors around you but the neighbors in the next county, next zone and so forth....
Just because you're not seeing a decline doesn't mean it's not happening elsewhere.... We need to see the bigger picture and that's where we need too grow as hunters.... Some are already there, most aren't as evident just looking at social media.... But Just what has been stated numerous times, educating the masses is what's needed.... Educating them, with out belittling them can be a chore at times especially when you see some of the ignorance that is out there, but it needs to be done and before anything can move forward that has too start.... We'll just be spinning our wheels if we don't....
As evident in some of the posts on here emotions run high, I suggest if you get upset, you take an extra few minutes too reread your posts and maybe hold off and post it later, this thread isn't going away, and posting while riled up will not get you point across I can guarantee that....

Great post J!

We all need to respect each other and our opinions and realize we're all on the same team! PETA and the rest of our advisaries don't need any help either. The only way our kids and their kids and beyond will have anything like we have now is if we all stand together as one and just get behind something like this and help the DOW by providing them with true numbers so they can regulate the masses much better than they have this past decade or so...IMO.

I agree with everything J and you have said, but Ohio will probably naturally balance out as more and more private land becomes high end leases and typically people paying decent money or big money take care of their herd. I really don't think the deer herd is in trouble because if Tonk's statement about a public land lottery and private land dries up unless an individual has a decent income like majority of us on this site who really care about hunting, we will have less and less people hunting. This will cause less kills and higher population. As Ohio eliminates opportunity (they want people that only hunt once a year but still spend $50 on license and tags), people with money will gain advantage and more opportunity to see a high better quality of deer. This is capitalism in a nut shell. ----This is my prediction for the future, if Ohio hunting laws and outfitter laws are not changed.

I am interested in how do you plan to get the info? Surveys and such have such a low return rate, they often don't work out. Any kind of incentive for someone to even open the envelope?

I like the idea of using existing info already gathered. but like you said earlier, the questions you want to ask, aren't on those surveys.

As mike said, digital and face to face in high hunter concentration areas like the D&T expo, deerassic, work the door at a sporting goods store, drop off information at taxidermists and butchers. Unlike the state we also have the ability to offer something in return. "Complete survey for a chance to win a pheasant hunt" etc. There's also the potential of other sportsman organisations either sharing survey data they collected, or asking their member base to complete one. There are far far better ways to collect data than mailing out a paper envelope.

Dave...just ask 10 buddies whom are not on here to participate in a survey, then they in turn ask 10 separate friends.

If I do the same...then the ball starts rolling for data collections.

I understand how networking works. I'm planting seeds here...it's gonna take everyone for this to work. We are all gonna have to do our part to provide as much feedback from the field, that we can. This feedback is going to need to come from every angle also.
