Have interest from an out of state person looking for a place for his son to hunt this year's youth gun weekend. What is a fair price for a "weekend lease?" It's prime time for bucks to be moving so I believe that's a factor in the cost but it's also a youth hunter. I have a place for him but honestly just don't know at what price. Thoughts? Thanks

The satisfaction of allowing a youth to have the ability of harvesting a potential nice buck on your land should be a priceless reward for you.
I've been hosting youth hunts on our lot for a few years now and its a very enjoyable experience for me.
Makes for proud father and son moments and memories for life, myself the landowner included.

Fish, I gotta tell ya, I don't think there's anyone who can give an actual answer to your question other than you, and your "potential client" (who we'll call PC).
What are PC's desires, and expectations? Does he expect to see deer if he's giving you money? Slippery slope.
What's he willing to pay? I guess in reality, the answer to your question is "charge what the market will bear"
Find out what he's willing to pay, and what he thinks are reasonable expectations in return.
Or, you could do it for free, for the good of the sport.
But then again, you only get so many weekends per season, and your time is valuable, right?
Do you even want to be bothered with the responsibility?

Well, I should probably just keep my mouth shut, because Ben said what my first reaction was most eloquently -
But, there are a lot of unknown variables to this question - like Chad said, is Fish the landowner and what's the relationship?
IMHO, if I were to charge someone (which would never happen, but that's just me) I'd only charge someone on land that was mine. Second, If it was someone I even remotely had a relationship with, I wouldn't charge them. Third, if I didn't have some sort of relationship, I would not be bothered with it.
For me, money and hunting shouldn't mix. But that's just me. I won't pay, and I won't be paid. But I realize that's not today's reality, and don't want to come off preachy. I'd like to look at it from different perspectives objectively.

Yep $2000 or more plus $500 for taxidermy and the shooter will always remember he BOUGHT his buck.Its time for Walmart to peddle wall hangers. Iwonder how many Cabela deer are fakes, plastic copies.

Another subject that can be viewed in different ways. I'm more in Ben's camp. For me it would depend on the situation. Does the youth hunter want to hunt or is the parent wanting the child to hunt. A huge difference in my opinion. My grand kids have no real desire to hunt so I don't push the issue, even though I wish they would hunt with me. If I had a youth hunter approach me wanting to hunt at my place I'd most likely be happy to set them up in a good set up. Even though I don't shoot does, that particular day they would be fair game for the youth hunter.
You do realize we are talking about a kid, right? I'm sure that's the last thing he'll remember, if he's even told it was paid for.

Wish I had taken my saw to Cabela's on Sunday. I could have seen if the antlers were bone or plastic. They are just displays, does it really matter?
