Hi everyone, just moved to Ohio and want to start hunting next year. Any advice for a newbie would be amazing! Thanks

Welcome!

Start hunting what? For a new hunter it’s suggest starting with turkey, waterfowl or small game. Find a freak with all the gear and tag along.

Welcome to the site. Best to find a mentor if you can, decide what you want to start hunting for. Have you ever hunted before?

I have not hunted before. Lived in a city my whole life and im finally where I belong. I would love to hunt whitetail so i can stock up my freezer next year. I just dont know where to begin. I dont have a mentor because I dont know anyone. And i would prefer to bow hunt.

Welcome to the best forum around! Some of these guys are rough around the edges but have hearts of gold. I'm sure we can get you pointed in the right direction. I'd second trying some small game hunting first as well. If you're heart is set on deer hunting we will do our best to help direct you.

Do you have any land available to you to hunt?
Any archery shops close by where you can try out some of their bows?
Any place that you can shoot after getting a bow?

I would normally agree with hunting small game first but I dont want to kill something i wont eat or use. And yes i can practice shooting a bow right on my land, but i do not have land to hunt on.

You ever had squirrel? It's good tasting meat, imo. Lots of different ways to prepare them. It's what I started out hunting.
