Anyone else see that ODNR did a release of 40,000 lake trout out by Kelly's? I haven't heard a reason why, but I'm guessing to help get the Gobies under control maybe? I also read a lot of complaints from people thinking they would just head for NY waters.

What's your thoughts?

Were these fingerlings? I think it would be nice to have a better population of wild trout locally. I know a few places to target them around the area. Lake trout arent really a great game fish IMO. Every one I caught in the rivers while Salmon fishing in Michigan fought like a wet rag. Not much different feeling than the walleye in the river

So I just read the article and it says they used to migrate quite a long ways to spawn on the western basin reefs. Most of the trout caught in Ohio are "Put & Take" fish anyhow, so might as well try to repopulate some once, native fish

The picture I seen on FB looked to be all 6-8" fish. I also read that the lake used to have a population of them until the water quality dropped off. I also wonder how well they will handle the algae bloom.

Those big female walleye will have most of them eaten on their migration back east anyway...just saying....they are around the kelleys island area right now headed east.

We get Kings that were stocked in Lake Huron showing up in the Maumee, so I guess it evens out.

Anytime you have a body of water that touches multiple states you'll have this... Hoping that Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan and New York have been conversing on this project.... But then again it is a government entity.... So probably not....
