michigan is a totally different animal. If you have not been there to see what it's like you probably would not understand. Walking to your stand without a bag of corn over your shoulder would be as bad as leaving your bow in the truck. I think that if Ohio were to ban it most who do bait deer would stop.

I understand, but there's an entire generation of hunters that don't know how to hunt. They can bait like a champ, but not hunt. This problem stretches over many borders and lines.

What if I hunt next to a single apple tree? I thought michigan made a law that hunters just couldn't use troughs or pipe feeders where the deer would come in contact with plastic, put spread feeders and putting corn on the ground was okay. Whats the difference from dropping apples or corn compared to a tree or a field?

I guess the natural vs man made baiting debate can go on for a while but while outlawing bait will save a few deer and slow the process of contagious diseases those diseases will make The rounds in the heard....
For people too think that dropping bait on the ground is the same as hunting an apple tree they can justify anything with their thought process....

Nothing. Both is hunting over bait. The law draws the line at purposefully distributing bait however. But the reality is planting an apple tree is purposefully distributing bait with less manual effort. The result is the same and both are bait.

The reality is dumping a pile of apples or planting an apple tree is comparable to the difference between dumping a bag of corn or putting up a feeder.

In a nutshell here is Michigan's baiting regulations:

Baiting may occur only from Sept. 15 - Jan. 1.
Bait volume at any hunting site cannot exceed two gallons.
Bait dispersal must be over a minimum 10-foot by 10-foot area.
Bait must be scattered directly on the ground. It can be scattered by any means, including mechanical spin-cast feeders, provided that the spin-cast feeder does not distribute more than the maximum volume allowed.
To minimize exposure of deer to diseases that may be present, the DNR recommends not placing bait or feed repeatedly at the same point on the ground, and only baiting when actively hunting.
