I swear NC is the most cutt throat hunting I was ever apart of. The NC forum I Belo g to has several individual threads dedicated to Ohio. I tried to steer em to Kentucky.

We have alot of people from Tennessee hunt around central Ohio. I have 2 friends that hunt with us from there but if you drive around in November its all you see damn near is Tennessee plates.

Vermont does not have any deer. My daughter has lived near Burlington for 6 years and its a real surprise to actually see a deer even in city limits. You might have a better chance to see a moose. I was there in late October this past fall during their muzzy and bow season and only saw one dead doe in a truck and no carcasses other than one coyote on the roads.

Vermont has extensive public land to hunt. Apparently Vermont residents think all the public land in New York stinks too, its a lot shorter drive.

Ohio could solve the problem easily, charge $500 for a non resident buck permit. If the "invaders" can afford to lease, empty their wallets.

They Benoits haven't hunted in Vt for many years now. They mostly hunt in Ontario. A few bad winters in a row wiped out the herd, and it has never recovered. Same thing happened in Maine, but for some reason unlike in Vt the herd has started to bounce back these past few years. If you watch the videos the Benoits started putting out in like 2005 they never once hunted in Vt. The videos are 95% Ontario with a couple hunts in Maine and New Hampshire.

I feel like dropping non residents to a 1 deer bag limit and keeping residents as they are would have a positive impact on the deer population as well as decreasing the number of non resident hunters. This would cut out alot of neighboring states that come do there slaying on ohio grounds.

So non residents are the biggest threat to the herd and cutting them down to 1 tag would solve the problem? While there may be a lot of non residents hunting OH, including me, it's pretty naive to say that. I hunt some areas that are pretty depressed and I pose this question. I may be wrong but I'm asking based on what I've seen in one section of the state. In those poor areas, where work may be tough to find, who is likely to abuse the system...a non res or someone who lives there all year, knows the 1 game warden in the entire county, and can shoot out of the kitchen window whenever he wants?? I know it's easy to blame us because it's not "our" state or land, but it's called public for a reason. Non residents, like it or not, pump a lot of $ into the state and most of us, treat it like I would my own property.

Excellent point there and I won't argue for one second that residents abuse the system as well. That's every state and every law. However if it works in ohio like it does in georgia you have the majority of your non resident hunters going to another state to "fill the freezer". They don't want to kill the deer they see all year so they go to a neighboring state and kill "their" deer. I'm not saying the non residents are killing every deer that walks I was just making the point that they do account for a large number of deer harvested. I believe every state should have a bag limit for residents and another for non residents. For instance I talked to a hunter from a neighboring state a few weeks ago. He told me he and his friends loved hunting in georgia because we have a 12 deer limit and they always fill there tags. That really upsets me when I live and pay taxes here and put alot of hard work into this land so someone else can come in and rape the deer herd. I'm not saying every non resident hunter does this because I know i sure as heck don't. Like I said in another post I have bought my non resident tags for four years and harvested one doe. I'm not going to another state to dry hole the deer population. Some do.....

And I agree, that's not why I go to another state either. I don't kill what I can't eat in my home state, I'm not doing anywhere else. My whole point was that the "numbers" may say non residents kill a large % but remember, those are the deer that are checked in. I'm sure there's a lot of deer that never get a #, right to the freezer and houdini'd

I agree as well that goes big time in a state like ga when you have a 12 deer limit on the honor system. We're still on the same page. I don't go by statistics....I go by what I see and hear.

A-holes exist. Resident or NR.
Good guys exist. Res or NR.
Some guys love to point the finger. It is NEVER their fault. Always someone elses fault. Don't worry guys. Most of the people on this site are pretty welcoming. If you stick around you will notice the threads specifically about ODNR or herd numbers pulls some people out of the woodwork who don't post a ton. Nothing wrong with being passionate (I'm not bashing them). Just saying, this is a touchy subject. Not going to keep everyone happy. Good to see you two aren't turning this into a silly pissing match.

No reason two grown adults shouldn't be able to discuss such a topic without a body count afterwords. I think the numbers are a joke as far as every state goes. Like run hunter said so many go from field to freezer without a number. Always been that way always will be.

I also wish they'd start sending surveys to NR hunters. Being that public land is where a majority of the issues stem from and a majority of NR hunt public....only makes sense that they are included in these surveys. Surely someone could ask Tonk why they don't.

I concur. Seems like these threads. . . Not everyone is able to retain their civility. lmao
