Carcass Cam

Do you think the coyotes smelled human scent on that deer? Or maybe the bobcat marked the area and the coyotes stayed away? Just wondering why they didn't get all over this. Seems a little weird to me.

I really can't answer that. I hear coyotes about every evening in the distance. They seem to be on us for a few days a month. There is one that crosses us frequently though. Across the road gets absolutely abused during all of the gun seasons. Opening day there were hundreds of shots. I'm sure there were many gut piles and carcasses for the yotes to choose from. I found a deteriorated hide on us by the road yesterday...no bones just hair. Not sure what that was all about. Maybe someone just dumped it off.

Thanks for your honesty. It's just been puzzling me, lol.

I thought they would be all over it too. I wore rubber boots when checking the cam and didn't go to the carcass, I approached from behind the cam. The few times coyotes came through they didn't seem interested and they didn't act spooked. IDK, puzzling to me TOO.

I'm wondering if the warmer temps we had this winter might have something to do with it. Not much snow means the yotes can hunt for mice alot easier also.

You inspired me to do this again this year. Cam has been out since Sunday. I'll get to check it tomorrow. Hoping for some cool pics. Yours did well!

We have had 3 deer living in the small thicket behind the house since late spring. My daughter started putting out a couple pounds of corn per day in the yard for the last few weeks. I put a cam up just for fun. We have had some cool pics of them and a fox....and our pets. Yesterday we found a dead deer 10 yards behind the cam in the neighbors yard/field. I have no clue what happened to it. It looks smaller than the 2 fawns that have been in the yard and we had pics of 2 of the deer last night which isn't unusual, all 3 have rarely been at the cam at the same time. I put the cam on the carcass to see what is feeding on it. Maybe we will find out.

The only critter has been a fox. There are 4 free running dogs that keep coming to the carcass, I'm guessing they are guilty.
