Made the 14 hour drive down to southern Ohio from Vermont for the second time in as many years. Booked our trip for two weeks later this year to hopefully hit the rut better. I was very selective last year and told myself "I didn't drive 14 hours to shoot something small." With that mindset I passed on several 2.5 and a couple nice 3.5 year old bucks waiting for something more mature. That mindset left me empty handed last year but I was rewarded this year connecting on a nice 140" 9 point. I called him in to 16 yards and made a rough quartering to shot. The rage hypodermic did its job and he only ran 70 yds. I had to venture in deep to get him and it took 3.5 hours for two guys to get him a mile out ascending 400' of elevation. Not bad for my first buck with a bow.
