Wool Parka

I posted this in another thread but didn't get a response so I thought it deserved its own thread.

For those who hunt with wool clothing: are you aware of a sub-$200 parka in 3XL? I've seen sub-$200 parkas but max size is 2XL. I guess those are for girly men. Anyways, I think a 3XL would allow for layering.

Have you ever looked into Primaloft? It holds a lot of the same factors as wool and is much lighter and packable. I understand if you are looking to stay with the old fashion idea, just thought I'd throw it out there for you to look into. You can find it used in eBay pretty reasonable. Military started using it a few years back and it's a pretty impressive insulator.

Never heard of it before. Thanks for the advice. I'll look into it.

I've always wanted one of those Cabelas wooltimate parkas but then I tried one on.....them fuggers are heavy. I would never want to pack one of those to the stand.

I've also always wanted a Primoloft jacket and just told my wife the other night I wanted the one i found on the LL bean Web page.

Primaloft is light. But puffy and most outer material on it is noisy.

I am going to wool. Heavier, yes. But it is also better at cutting the wind.

I can't bring myself to buy a parka or wool as warm as it stays during majority of our Ohio season, I wish it would get cold enough to wear a parka.

3XL?

John,
Didn't you lose like 70+ pounds a few years back?
I thought you were turning skinny?
Does Sportsman's Guide have any Army surplus in that size?

Yeah...actually lost 120lbs total. Then frustration over a plateau, then a new career with a lot of pressure and stress and then I gained the majority of it back. It sucks! I need to get started again on running. Proud to say I'm still not at my heaviest, but disappointed to say I'm no where near I was.

120#, Nice!
Tomorrow is a new day and you have already conquered that task.
