198 this morning and rapidly building momentum. My mental acuity is back on point and I'm gaining energy with the increasing daylight in the evening. I can feel the ascension back to the flurry of spring, summer and fall, so I am ready for the climb!

I set a goal of running 500 miles this year, but I have catching up to do already. I'm at 14.77 and hope to make that an even 20 miles today. On a good note, my paces has improved every time out and my body is holding up well at the time. I've learned to love running because I can get in my own head and sort stuff out. I understand "runners high" now and I've learned to love pushing myself to the brink again. I have lost more than 20 pounds 6 times in my life by making changes. Every time I regressed, it was the lost of resistance that hurt me most. We were meant to be stressed and when I stress my body physically, the mental results are very apparent now. Again, the matter of perspective from 34 to 24 to 14 when I first started "training" specifically for strength and endurance. For me to be my best, I need to push myself to the verge of puking 2-3 times a week.

Good luck to everyone attempting to get back on track after the holidays. Hopefully now that we are in to the "habit" forming time frame, you have developed new habits to carry you through the rest of the year. I believe the phrase is #keephammering

I need to start hammering. Feeling like a fat piece of shit. Gotta start somewhere. Going to ramp up my physical activity some how. Planning on hikeing a bunch looking for sheds.

Any other suggestions?

Some heavy cardio would help me out. Just don't know where to start other then climbing the hills

Reduce or cut out any sweet drink or energy drink, cut your junk carbs, drink a shitload of water to the point your pissing every hour...
That'll start you off and the rest of the guys can chime in and fine tune ya...

Way to go Jesse! Good luck on reaching the 500mile goal.

That's basically my approach. I quit drinking pop almost a year ago and that helped me in a number of ways. As far as other sweets and sugars go, I fell off the wagon during the holidays but now I'm getting back to the grind. Weight room 4 times a week, a bit of jogging and occasional sprints mixed in, and then just simply trying not to eat like a typical gluttonous American.

I envy you, Jesse. I wish I could enjoy running long distance, but I fuckin hate it with a passion. I can tolerate short bursts but the long distance stuff bores me to no end.

I used to hate it too. I almost use it like meditation now and a lot of my ideas and action items come from my runs.

I could write a 1K words on this subject pretty easy. Great advice by J. Just get outside a move. Don't drink pop. Drink 3-4 quarts a day and stop eating processed foods as much as possible. That'll do a world of good for you.

If you want to really shed some pounds fairly quickly, not without pain mind you lol....
Cut out all carbs, nothing with carbs in it and you'll go into withdrawals for about a week and then you'll see the pounds slide away fairly rapidly for about the first month.... Slowly start adding the good carbs without adding junk carbs....
You can conservatively shed a couple inches relatively quick doing this.... Don't ask me how I know lol....

Kickin up my water intake x100 starting today and starting to read into that ketogenic diet. Wheels are turning.

Just talked to my sister. She wants me to get into running and 'train' for a marathon or half marathon the next 6 months. She started running years back when she was going through some major changes in her life and it was one of the best things she ever did for herself.

Not sure I'm trying to put that kind of strain on my body at this stage in the game, but a little bit on a regular basis would do wonders.

My other sis is really on a tear. She's dropped 44 f'n pounds in the last 6 months doing the 'weight watchers' thing. Super proud of her. She's showing no signs of slowing down either.

Right now, my diet consists of way to many carbs. I've always been big on carbs. Give me bread and I'm happy. It's bad.

My old man has been on and off the Atkins no carb diet for the last 20 years. It's his go too, but he always seems to pick the weight right back up once he falls off.

Wheels are turning which is a good start.

Jesse, you are crushing it man. Keep on it! Awesome

Low carb is the way to go for me. When I did strict keto for 90 days, the weight melted off. Now I eat a modified paleo diet and keep it under 150 net carbs a day and 25g of sugar. I eat 80% or better of my meals as whole foods and allow myself 3-4 meals a week to get a little out of bounds. Be strict, but earn rewards.

Keto is definitely the way to go. I can stick to it for awhile but I also love my carbs. Right now I'm in a strength building phase so I'm eating pretty much whatever I want and I love it. I've always struggled with food and my weight which is why I gravitated to powerlifting. Good luck to everyone with your weightloss goals. I'm hoping to hit more PRs next week so if I do I'll post them. Sorry if my lifting goals bore you guys. Hopefully it's not coming off like bragging I am just enjoying documenting my journey.

Well I benched 295 for 4 sets of 6 this morning which was a PR. I compete in seven weeks and everything but my deadlift is doing well. Having short arms is great for the bench, but sucks for deadlifting.

I've kicked up my water intake and have been being conscious of what I'm drinking and eating.

I definitely drink too much. That's a fact. I really think In the last 8-12 months that is what made me pack on the pounds. Can't be drinking 4-6 dale pale ales(or any heavy beer) along with 1-3 'twisted teas'(pure sugar malt liquor CRAP; don't try one) per day and expect to be healthy. It's no wonder I was feeling bloated and shitty.

In the last couple weeks I've dropped 5 pounds just by eliminateing those two thing and drinking more water. I've tried to cut out beer entirely, but drink miller lite if I'm drinking a beer. Drink of choice has been Gin and Tonic. One or two stiff ones to cap the night off sure beats the hell out of drinking a 6 pack.

Have eliminated fast food and eating out also. Cooking at home seems to be a lot healthier.

With this warm weather, my phones beginning to ring with different jobs people want done on their properties. My physical activity should have a major spike leading into moweing season when I'll be non stop.

Feeling 'better', but I'm looking forward to getting back down to fighting weight.

Congrats on the PR Miller! Great start Gordo, keep after it. Hell, even if weight lose is minimal, those changes are definitely a big improvement for overall health. Mmmmm, beer though:smiley_coolpeace:

Nice work, man! I've always been somewhat jealous of guys like you... barrel-chested and arms like a T-Rex. My friggin ape arms make the bench press a real chore. Best of luck in your competition that's coming up!

Damn, dude... That's a shit load carbs in all that beer! Good for you recognizing it and making a change. Stay consistent with it and you'll keep seeing results! Making a conscious effort to consume a lot of water is a real life changer. It's been a year now since I've had a pop or cola. I used to absolutely CRAVE those large cokes from McDonalds. Now my caffeine intake is limited to coffee and unsweet iced tea. Since giving up pop I have noticed that my headaches are few and far between now. I used to get them about 3 times a week or more. What's funny is I tried a sip of my wife's Pepsi when we were out for dinner a couple weeks ago... I absolutely hated it. It tasted like pure syrup.

Now, I do drink beer on occasion but rarely do I drink anything but the typical domestics. And only a couple times a year do I actually get buzzed on beer (thanks TOO summer gathering). Instead, when I feel like tying one on or getting a good buzz, I go straight to the bourbon. It's quick, effective, and I haven't researched this but I imagine it's got to be healthier than drinking 6 beers.
