For the last 3 years I've had a father/son hunt with me from Michigan. The father, Dave, passed away in the spring from a long battle with stage 4 lung cancer. His wife is having a memorial service thst Saturday evening. I plan on making the trip up to Midland to attend and pay my respects. Seems I always miss opening day for one reason or another.

Dragging…usually me and my old man stay up half the night drinking and are dragging some serious ass the opening morning. Then I'll probably find a nice tree to take a nap next to. It seems to happen for some reason every year, lol.

"Used" to there was only one place for me on opening day, in my tree stand! Rain, shine, wind, or what ever, I was THERE. Age, enthusiasm, health, has tempered that realization! Now I only spend three four days in Deer Camp. Never say NEVER! things change and change comes to ALL of us if we live long enough. Opening day I will be at my good friends house, (Chuck Murray's Bean Shoot) celebrating the passing of another OSTA year. Good friends, good food, "almost" as good as opening day in a tree stand. :)

In the morning I will be in the clearing I just made in the thicket that has been kicking my ass for years. in the evening I will be just off the creek on one of the main trails. I have a good feeling about this year. I have been completely burnt out the last cpl years cause of lack of deer, and it killed my motivation. This yr I have good hopes, not high hopes, just good hopes

East winds kill me but I imagine the best spot for that wind is where I seen most of my action last year when I tagged my doe and seen all the chasing in October. The only thing that could change that is the other DS that have not stepped foot out there all year that just wonder. Who knows where they will end up or what path they will take to get there. Always hate the beginning of season because I never know if and when these guys will be around and what not. I could plan the best spot for me but it only takes 1 of those other guys to screw it all up on their way in since they normally walk right down the middle of the bedding area lol.

Do you hunt public land?

I'll be out in the morning. Not sure where. Don't plan to shoot anything, just getting out for the sake of being out. Headed to hocking hills late morning g for my wife's birthday. It's normally an annual thing that we go there except for last year when she couldn't get the day off work. Seems kinda funny that the only time I was out for an evening hunt on opening day, I managed to harvest a nice doe.

I won't get off work in time for the morning, but plan on getting the jitters out of the way, on a doe in the evening.

I'm excited about the season opening and I'm sure I'll go somewhere. I want to try the opposite side of a wood lot that I hunted last year. It's a long walk across a bean field to get to it but I think it will be productive.

Since I haven't actually set anything up there I think I might end up there on opening day. The plan is to just go sit in the afternoon (with the crossbow) and see if I can figure that spot out a little better. If I do, I'll try to get a plan to get a stand or blind back there.

No hunting in the morning, but will be out at the honey hole at my FIL's. East wind will be a hindrance, but ill figure something out. The big 8 has been coming out before dark the last week or so. Pretty pumped.

Mason and I were planning on taking a recurve(me) and Mission (Mason), since we cant get a pic of one of our target bucks. Since we glassed one of them last night, that may change. The biggest thing causing anticipation around here is Phil and his sons visit. Mason wants Garrett to get a shot in the worst way, to the point he feels the need to second guess every thing Im doing! I dont know who he thinks set him up on every deer hes killed... :)
.
Mason is a riot Brock. You may need to pay better attention. :smiley_crocodile:
