Coyote impact opinions

Have you had any success BH57? I know you. I am not afraid to call you out on it.
hickslawns,
Between myself and another group of drivers that have been through the section that I live/hunt, there have been 4 coyotes killed since December. I've been around this section and surrounding sections and have yet to see a track. They've left the area...for now. I have no delusions that they will return, but they will be sent straight to that big coyote den in the sky, as soon as my crosshairs find them. :smiley_blink:

I don't doubt it Dan. I think the biggest problem is with land owners I hunt on. They tell me when they hear or see coyotes, but it always seems to be weeks later. I have told them repeatedly "If you hear or see one, don't hesitate to call me. Day or night." If you can't get after them when they are in the area it makes it tough. We aren't exactly in areas where we can get access to hundreds of acres. Those who do are fortunate.

Whoever had them on camera should have contacted you immediately. That was a poor decision on their part for sure.

We haven't had many coyote sign in our area since I moved in. I got one pic in just over 3 years.

Well last night before dawn a couple of doe came out into the bean field across the street from my house...just after dark a pack of coyotes lite up the night in that exact same spot. Boy did that piss me off because I know what happened... Anyone every try and kill them this time of year?

Agreed Chad. Problem is, I don't get along with my neighbor very well. He owns the 500 acres around me and everything else is leased out. Another reason I HATE leasers! To damn worried about "their" trophy bucks to let anyone else do anything.

Which neighbor sent you the text message?

It's the neighbor farmer I don't get along with. The first year we lived here a shot a doe that went into his beans and he wouldn't let me retrieve her... It didn't go over well with me. I flipped a bit when he said "if it was a big buck I'd let you".

Why is he sending you texts about the coyotes if he won't let you hunt them? Or are you still holding a grudge? Patch things up with the douchebag and kill a few yotes.

You fellas that think coyotes kill only young or unhealthy are believing a myth. When a coyote decides to kill a deer, they persue at a steady pace. The deer makes a short fast escape...the coyote presses on. Eventually the deer wears down, the coyote does not. The first coyote I ever killed with a bow was doing this very thing. The doe he was chasing was so exhausted, she stood 50 yards from me and watched as I climbed down and recovered the yote. Coyotes are pro's, don't ever doubt that!

Yep. I have a relatively small parcel of land - 37 acres - and apparently a non trivial problem with coyotes. This spring I was able to go around my property quite a bit while shed hunting with a buddy. Did a lot of walking and came across 4 different kill sites. Not much left - mostly fur and a few lower legs with hoofs still attached.

Seems to me they do a damn good job killing off larger deer, and I'm not sure I buy that it's only the sick ones that they take down. I need to kick my ass in gear and get serious about killing those SOBs.

I agree, they need to be thinned out and I think they have a bigger impact on the deer population then people want to believe.

Found this doe in January 2015 80 yards from my mother in law's house. She was out in the field, I could see yote tracks everywhere and blood splattered all over the place from where they first attacked her to this spot where she died. Fuggin pissed me off and I ended up killing 5 of those bastards out of that area right after that.
