Well if it wasnt for bad luck I would have no luck at all!! As you all know I hurt my shoulder at work this spring and through some serious physical therapy and steroid injetions, and a therapist who was married to a bowhunter and understands the principles of drawing a bow I was ready for bow season this year. Well I have been having some pain in my left hip for several monthes now and just chocked it up to getting old and 2 knee surgeries on the same leg, so to get to the chase I was walking yesterday and it was bothering me, never really thought much about it , went to step up onto the first step of our deck and as soon as I placed weight on it down I went, the pain was excruciating and I will be truthful there was a tear or two shed! After a trip to the E.R. I get informed by the Dr. that my hip joint is wore out from the way I have been walking since having my knee surgery several years ago. He went onto explain that what he thinks had happened was my hip had "popped " out and right back in, he said from the looks of the x-rays that the ball and socket are wore out and that probably a hip replacement was in order, I have to call tommorow and schedule an appointment with a specialist to see what they want to do. 43 years old and a hip replacement FUGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. So for the time being I am limping around like a 95 year old until we see what the deal is. Hopefully there is an alternative to surgery, I lucked out with the shoulder and hope to with the hip also, at least to get me through this season and then I can be laid up on the couch, if not I will live this bow season through my brothers and sisters here on TOO!

Hate to hear this and Hoping you're gonna be OK. If a crossbow will help the situation any, just let me know and we'll see what we can do.

Dude, I hope all ends well for you.

I don't want to think about this myself, I am 42 years old and between my lower back, an old injury to my shoulder and a bad knee I don't know what hurts more (my back is the biggest problem right now). I have been putting off going to a doctor because I don't want to really know what he has to say.

I hope they can do something that would avoid surgery. I know what you mean about not being that old and having something bother you.
Good luck getting it taken care of. I'd give my left one to make sure I was in the woods!

Thanks for all the encouraging words and concerns guys, talked to a lady I work with today and her husband has had both of his hips replaced before he was 50, anyways the Dr. gave him cortisone shots in his hips and it helped him out for acouple of months, anybody have any experience with cortisone shots, I figure its about the same that they put in my shoulder but dont know for sure, have heard its good for the short term but its not good for the bones. I'm just looking for a way I can get through this season or until Dec. or so then I guess the Doc can cut on me if need be.

Dang, sorry to hear this man! Hope you find a way to get some hunting in but take care of your body first, I know it would suck missing any of this season but there is always next season TOO.

Sorry to hear this Tad. Hope you can get back out there!

I have had the shots and they are a temporary fix. I would say use those and get through deer season, then get the replacement. But don't climb a tree without being attached all the way up! Hate for that hip to give out while you are stepping on to a stand!!!

Best case is you are still young at 43 and will heal very quickly as compared to someone whom is older.
Best of luck no matter how things turn out.

That sucks man. Bad back and knees will put a hurtin on ya that's for sure. I hear the shots are a temp fix and maybe last a couple months at most. I guess it just gives a little fluid and some meds to bring the inflammation down in the joint. I still wouldn't trust the joint to not give out so I would look at a ground blind for this season for sure.
