We are buying my great grandparents house so I thought I would show some progress pics...

The whole house has carpet over oak floors. All the carpet is being removed and the floors look great!

This is my oldest daughter's room. I removed a window and built a new wall to remodel the bathroom in the future.

This is the living room wall where I roughed in cable/power/speaker wiring and then I will build an entertainment center below the wall mounted tv.

I know that I should leave the pink wall, but ain't happening!! There was wall paper over this wall.

Master bedroom following wallpaper removal, and ceiling and wall painting.

I'll add more as I progress.

One more thing... I guess back in the day, medicine cabinets had a slot in them to dispose old used razors! I found this out the hard way while digging out plaster from a wall cavity. Check out all these razors!!! They were damn sharp and the gash on my finger that bled like a stuck hog proves it...

I remember those medicine cabinets with razor slots at my grandparents house. The laundry shoot too. We had lots of fun throwing stuff down the shoot.

Well, I thought I was gonna get by without refinishing any floors now, BUT the living room and my youngest daughter's floors look like balls! So, now I guess I'm gonna just refinish ALL of them.might as well do it now, there ain't anything in the rooms that I need to move.

I'm going to remove all the baseboard so I can get the floors done to the wall. Little bit of work but not TOO bad.

I'll post some update pics.

I would have loved to have witnessed that one J.

I can just see that ball bouncing into dads work bench or moms shelves full of canned veggies.

Well, spent 10 hours sanding about 1,000 sq foot of floors yesterday! Got some sanding to do today and I should be able to get stain on.

Also have a crap load of holes to plug from cable and phone lines...

Well I logged about 22 hours of sanding. The first sander I had was a 4 headed random orbital sander that the Home Depot guy said worked great... I knew it would take longer than the belt sander and I would get close to the walls. I gave it a shot, sanded everything so many times for about 14 hours.

I started with 24 grit went to 36 then 40 then 70 and even 120. Look at this picture and you can see swirl marks in my floors that I could not get out!

I was so pissed off, went to Home Depot and talked with them about that sander, they said people love it, I hated it maybe a head was out of alignment... Anyways, I talked them into renting me the belt sander and edger for free.

So after another complete sanding from 36 grit up, I finished!

Only stained one room, my back is toast!!

I'm never going to use the cheaper easier version of major tools anymore! I should have known better!

just a suggestion bub, you can get poly eurathane and have a stain added in to it and get a lambs wool head on a "broom" stick and it makes your finish job half the time, and mess. no wipe up and no bending over.

Thanks, but already got stain and polyurethane separate. My experiences staining and finishing wood over the years has showed me that separate is better for a finish. I still use the mix from time to time though.
