Early corn this year

This is in the field right next to my driveway. Knee high by the 4th of July, not at my place. How about tasseled by the 4th.

Corn here is tasseling. Seems the farmers planted early maturity corn. Some of its only 5 foot tall with tassels. Just stay on for the first couple weeks of bow season and I'll be happy.

We didnt have any corn tasseling a week ago when I was at my lease, but some of it was over 6'. With all of this heat this week and it got just over an inch of rain last week it could be 8' by the next time I go down there.

With a poor crop expect more acres then normal to be chopped for silage. Jack you might be correct about some short season corn being planted early, they were trying to beat the main harvest for extra money. But I bet the short corn has more to do with drought then maturity. Some guys might try to get the corn off extra early so they can plant wheat too.
