The ole 30-30 is a great deer gun. As a kid I have seen many deer fall to a 30-30 back home in Ms. In the delta of the ms river the 30-06, 270, and 243s reign supreme. But if you had tp set foot in the thick undergrowth, or the swamps, the 30-30s came out of their cases in mass. Nicknamed by most back home as "Brush Busters" they were great in close quarters with heavy vegetation. A 170 gr blunt bullet can hit some brush and still stay on target to hit a deer. Where a 30-06, 270, or 243 would simply deform and be thrown off its mark... Most were used in Ms season for gun with dogs. When a dog runs a deer out of a swamp the 30-30 points and tracks good. But most of all OT doesn't break the bank or ears when you habe to shoot a couple snakes that got too close for comfort.
