Bird's Head Revolver Manufacturers?

Ohiosam,
US Firearms makes them...if you've got silly money and can afford one. Their prices start at $1350 & up. :smiley_arrogant:

I've done extensive searches and found only Uberti and Cimmaron, to make a Bird's Head revolver. :smiley_chinrub: At least they're prices are more reasonable, being in the mid-400s.

Posted that from my phone this AM I had a chance to check.
USFA http://www.usfirearms.com/cat/double-eagle.asp
Ruger doesn't list it any more but they did make them.

Cimarron, Taylor's etc sell their versions but they are made by Uberti.

Yep the USFA is expensive. I have a regular Cimarron SAA .45 LC with a 5.5 inch barrel and really like it. Finish is good, actions it smooth. IIRC it was under $500.

A less expensive route to go, may be to purchase a Ruger and convert the grip. That would give me 2 guns in 1 and maybe the best of both worlds. :smiley_blink:

After doing some shopping online, I may have opened a can of worms...as I really like the looks of that Bisley too. :smiley_chinrub: Hmm...so many guns and not enough money. :smiley_crocodile:

You can't convert the grip on the Rugers. The frame is different. The newer Mounted shooting Vaqeros have a thinner grip and thinner frame. Why do you like the Birds Head? I have small hands and everyone tried to make me buy them but they just felt like I was gonna drop them. I like the wide base of the regular grip but the thinness of the newer models is the ticket for my small hands and according to most of the other shooters the guys like them as well. NOW - If you go to the regular frame and grip you can get Gunfighter Grips from Eagle Grips. http://www.eaglegrips.com/guns/Rosewood-Gunfighter-Grips-Checkered-GF44.html These felt awsome in my hand and they just make the gun sit right. I'm asking for a set of these for Christmas for my two single action stainless Vaqeros. I have to shoot ten targets in under 20 seconds from the back of a running horse, switching guns and single action. Grip is important and I hated the Birds heads. You can get the Rugers in 5 1/2 inch or better for hunting but your gonna drop a nice dime on them new. I got a sweet set used from another shooter for $700...thats RARE for even used guns. I dropped over a grand for my first set new.

saddlepants,
You're not the first person to tell me that they didn't like the Birds Head grips. I'd prefer to learn from other's mistakes and live off of their experiences, as opposed to buyer's remorse.

I just liked the way they felt in my hand. However, thost that have fired a handgun with the Birds Head grips say that they're not meant for handling a lot of recoil. Actually, I prefer the Bisley grips for recoil purposes, over the standard western style grips.

I have the old style Vaqueros with the thicker grip and frame but they have bisley hammers that have been worked and knurled. Those gunfighter grips I mentioned actually make the grip thinner on the thicker frame and the carved out shape feels great. They have been designed for action shooters who use hard ammo (we shoot powder blanks) so they are supposed to really be good for the recoil. I rarely have the chance to shoot hard ammo out of mine these days. I know they pack a punch tho and i have a few boxes in the closet waiting for a good time lol

saddlepants,
Your hobby of ridin' and shootin' facinates me. I'd like to have a long conversation with you about it, to hear the details. :smiley_chinrub: I like to ride horses, but wouldn't ever want to own one. Too much maintenance and therefore, my love for ORVs. However, I don't think there's a "legal" group that rides and shoots off of ORVs. :smiley_crocodile:

As far as the revolver thing. As much as I like the looks and feel of the Birds Head revolvers, I'll stick to the Bisley grips...for now. I hope you get some more shooting time in, soon. :smiley_blink:
