Kayak paddle for a canoe?

I've owned both kayaks and canoes and enjoyed both for different reasons. I like the use of the double ended kayak paddles and they make sense in their use for that type of boat.

However, I was thinking of using a kayak paddle for a canoe. It would seem to make the steering more simple in it's method. I can paddle a canoe, continuously, on just one side for steering, turning, etc., but am curious about the use of a kayak paddle in a canoe.

Has anyone ever used a kayak paddle in a canoe?

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.
Thank you, Bowhunter57

Makes sense to me, but I've never tried it.

Good idea though. I may have to start shopping around for a new paddle.

It would have to be a pretty long yak paddle to work in my canoe. My canoe is TOO wide/high to use a standard yak paddle. YMMV

I found the movement to paddle was to animated meaning I had to extend each part of the stroke. Like you, I thought it would be easier that switching sides or "ruddering" w/ the paddle after each or every other stroke. It turned out to be more work. I went back to to the canoe paddle the same day.
