Had 5-10 min to make a decision. I watched him come in behind a group of does. Watched him nudge them around. They would actually come back to him and wait on him. He was hobbling around with 2 broken legs. I couldn't tell if it was fresh or healed over. I hesitated twice on open shots which were in bow range. After 5-10 min of watching him struggle to move I decided it was my duty to put my tag on him. Would have been an injustice to let him walk. I shot him at 69 paces from the tree in a small window. Dropped in his tracks. Weird feeling. Satisfaction. Disappointment. Pride. I don't know. Just a different kind of feeling. At the end of the day, I am thankful. Our freezer will be full now. He will no longer suffer. That makes me feel good.
