Ok gents gotta 6 year old son turns 7 at the end of the month he really wants a compound bow and I was thinking around Christmas would you start him off with a compound bow or cross bow I would like something that will grow with him what do you all recommend oh I just bought him one of the cheap walmart bows his boy scout leader recommended it is 13 pound draw and it is kinda tough for him to draw sometimes until he gets it back to where it "breaks

If you decide on a crossbow look at the Parker Challenger. The light compact design is excellent for women and children. Still shoots 305 fps and comes in at 5.2 lb

My daughter loves her Mission Craze 2 but she's 20 now. It's a great youth bow that can be adjusted with quite a range in draw length and poundage. Good luck and have fun with whatever you do decide on.

I will second the Mission Craze.

As far as something to hunt with pretty quick to get him in the woods? Gotta go crossbow. I did both with my boys so that they could hunt at a young age while waiting until they could draw the 40 pound minimum.

But, starting him early on the compound is the way to go.

Well I have a Barnett droptine I picked up last month at sportsmans den in Shelby that I could let him use
When do you think it is the right age to have him take a hunters saftey course

x3 for Mission Craze if you are going with an upright bow. Or get him a cheap recurve to teach him a love for archery and buy a crossbow for killing until he can handle 40#s on a compound.

I was in a similar situation last year, I was a bit unsure of my kids “want” and chose to go cheap. Cheap has let me let him and his friends enjoy the hell out of it. It has actually turned into family fun on sundays around a campfire.

This is a junk Bear off amazon.

We’ve had fun with it and it didn’t cost much. I’m glad I didn’t spend big money because I wouldn’t want just anyone handling it. Even if he doesn’t stick with it, we all had fun and made memories.

It’s been a lot of fun. Just get something and enjoy the gel out of it. This thing shoots like shit and isn’t accurate at all, but damn it’s fun.
