Walked into gander today after seeing a sign flipper on the corner and remembered they were going out of business. Looking at the guns they had one section that said. "Used / as is / parts missing"

Sitting there was a pump action rifle. Marked $376. I asked to see it and he said it was broke but didn't know what was wrong with it. I looked it over and realized the only thing that was missing was the end cap bolt that holds the pump on, and a magazine, but I kept that to myself. He said it was 50% off because it was broken. I hemmed and Hawed a bit and got him to agree to another 50% off as they're going out of business. The end result was I walked out with a 1968 production 760 Deluxe Gamemaster in 30-06 with almost NIB condition for a $87 bucks!

Stamps indicate a January of 1968 manufactur date. Not a speck of rust or really a scratch on it. I'm guessing that cap was lost long ago and the rifle was just put away.

Thanks guys. Had a couple cases laying around with just primers in them. Took it out in the garage and she popped the caps and ejected them good. All it needs is a 3/8 1.5 inch bolt from home Depot and a magazine off eBay.

Sweet ! Almost makes ya wonder what was going thru that guys mind as you walked away...lol.

Gander has been sold and the final sale of inventory ran by a liquidation company. They're notorious for being complete assholes and could care less about the employees. His attitude was pretty much "Yeah fuck em I'll give you a deal"

That is the BDL verison, the more expensive wood. I have the ADL with the plain wood.
get a 3 or 5 round magazine and a 10, 15 or 20 round aftermarket.(assault rifle)
The missing screw might be slightly different. note that you have a sling "thing" on the barrel. I think "uncle mike" made a sling attachment that goes where your missing the screw and somebody at the store might have taken the sling off which had the sling mount.

Reloading for it can be trickey. if you do not resize the cartridge case. extractors are not as strong as a bolt gun. Its a good idea to run the empty resized case through the action before the powdwer and bullet are loaded.

Hey @Ohiosam or anyone else that might know. Turns out this 760 needs a mag release. I ran what I believe to be the barrel number and it comes out to a 1980 build. The SN agrees with that as it's in the millions and starts with B7,xxx, xxxx. So its after Rem started serializing the 760s and 7600s with the same number sequence in I think 1976. Anyway. In my reading the mag release was always a pain in these rifles. So I assume at some point Rem redesigned them to a "new" style. I have no clue when that was and if they're interchangeable. I also don't know what the "sizes" are. Any ideas?
