Ain't no way I could ever shoot a dog. I've jokingly said I'd shoot the neighbors dogs that run loose on and around our property but I know I could never do it. I do not agree with it being a felony though.

This is a touchy subject. But reading that article said the dogs were also harassing humans. If I was in the situation, I'd like to be protected by the law to protect myself against a companion animal.

What the story doesn't state, unless I missed it, is it never stated if the dogs were I someone else's property or if they were on their own property. Once the dogs cross their own property line and harassing humans, free game. Although we know a dog doesn't understand property lines, it's then on the dogs owner to be held responsible. In my opinion

I don't remember 100% but I believe they were off their property.... But didn't he also brag about it? Could be wrong....

Being the first to be charged under the new Goddards law it'll be interesting if it sticks.... I have my doubts

Yep. The law is absolutely stupid. Forgetting to water a companion animal can be considered abuse and and an instant felony charge.

The dogs were off the owners property. The hunter shot them and hid them in a brush pile.

Hiding the dogs bodies and saying he just wanted to kill something is a different story. Get a rope

Hiding the dog bodies was incorrect. But 'saying he wanted to kill something' can be taken out of contents. Almost everyone on this forum at sometime said the wanted to kill something. Be it a deer, rabbit, squirrel or maybe a duck.
I couldn't find him guilty on saying that or maybe even for shooting the 2 dogs if in fact the dogs were on someone else's property harassing deer. I wasn't there but I would find him guilty of some minor fault for hiding the bodies.

Did he say he just wanted to kill something in response to someone asking if he killed the dogs?

I think the guy was pissed he wasn't seeing any deer, figured it was the dogs' fault and made a bad mistake. NFW I would kill a dog unless it was threatening my family or I. I'm not that guy.

Yeah, if dogs were running deer by my stand, ya just gotta sit there, shake your head and laugh it off. That's someone's pet. If you know who owns the dogs, you gotta go talk to them. If you don't know, then just hope it doesn't happen again. Sometimes dogs just lose their minds and do stupid stuff.

I had dogs run a deer by me before. Just once... in 30 some years of hunting, just once. I can't see it being an everyday thing unless the owner is completely negligent.
