Well one thing is for certain, your not going to register it and get plates.. Possibly people would buy them to use on a farm or private property not going on a public road... But I'd still want a title..

whats a salvage title?

In Ohio a salvage title is a item that the Insurance Co holds title to or a salvage company bought at auction from the Insurance auction sales. Buy it from the Insurance Co, repair with parts receipts and get a inspection fro the Ohio Highway patrol. Then apply for a rebuilt title.
Or buy a rebuilt titled one and get another title that will also be marked rebuilt.
Over the years we have done about 20 cars and trucks. Never been a serious problem as long as you have your receipts in line. We only rebuilt low mileage and light hit damage. Fords mainly as there are more parts available.

To a knowledgeable buyer only about 10-20% price reduction. As there are a lot of accident repaired cars-trucks on the road just didn't get salvaged out.

In fact in 2006 I bought a as new 2005 Ford Taraus wagon for $6000 and spent $1000 in repairs and was on the road in 7 days. Only had 567 miles on it. Drove for 11 yrs and 100,000 miles and no repairs.

I see a lot of motorcycles for sale out here with a lost title.

Lost I can see, but the owner at that point has the option to get a replacement....

Bit like Rich said, no title, no plates and if someone can produce a title down the road and you have a bill of sale who's the rightful owner???

Seems like you'd be hanging there in a gray area.... I for one would t even dream of buying a vehicle without one....

Stolen recovery vehicles also fall under this in Ohio. That's what mine is and Ohio has it branded over paperwork, no damage or repairs done. Other states are not like this.

My Z71 came outta Maryland with a rebuilt title.... Was wrecked in Atlanta and totaled down there... Brought to Maryland and the guy who bought it bought bulk salvaged vehicles and fixed em and sold them on eBay.....

He did a good job and I had no issues with it.... But it did have a title lol.... Last one I saw was a fixer upper Jeep for 500.00 with no title.... That's what prompted this thread.... Can't believe someone would contemplate buying one without one....

I've looked at buying something like a jeep for off-road use only. I'd also think about buying a Cummings without a title for spare parts. A market is there for some things without a title. Best get a notarized bill of sale though, lol.

There are a lot of Jeeps for sale with no titles. I think they are sold. New owner doesn't plan on driving on the road so doesn't title it in order to avoid sales tax. Next thing you know he lost the title or sells it for parts. Might go thru a couple owners still titled in someone else's name who hasn't a clue his old Jeep is 2 to 3 owners down the road. Lol

Glad you enjoyed that story. Probably best to not tempt me with any Jeeps. I don't need to spend anymore money nor do I have the time to mess with one. Heck, I already have one I'm struggling to get titled. Lmao

I've contemplated buying a camper without a title, slap a trailer plate on it, have a buddy follow me to the permit location and call it a day!
