Anyone have any experiance with those boots they market for working dogs.... I've had two issues this year one with each dog that involved their feet.... One was a thorn issue and the other was a torn pad issue.... Both shut the dog down for a week and I'm thinking although this is a first with them or any others we've had over the years I'm just wondering if they'd work and how the dogs would react too them.... I know FredT has Beagles and Bluedog checks in also and she is definetly experianced in this area... But also the rest of you with working dogs may have come accross something like this where those boots may have been needed.... I know certain places they are a must like in the South West.... But are they worth it or are they just a pain in the backside that the dogs will hate and take too long to get used too....

Yep I tryed a set on my lab years ago

As we do a lot of upland hunting with thorns and ice

So I figured start well before season and get him used to them

Nope
I started in the house , he layed down and would not move

So , I figured outside playing fetch
Launched a dummy and put the boots on him

I sent him for the dummy
He made it 20yds
Skidded to a hault and removed the boots ( yes labs understand velcro )
And finished ther retreive

Spent a number of days , but I finaly gave up

I now take my lab for walks along the road
So his pads build up and are tough from him walking /running on the blacktop

I do this year round

So IMO unless you start your dog out young with the boots
It is going to be tough

You should be paid money to put that story in a magazine.
