Just my luck

I wouldn't wish my luck on anybody.

I am still trying to get a read on deer patterns at the farm I got permission to hunt this year. I've been set up in a spot by the garden and saw one that the farmer spooked out of bed. My little girl was in the blind with me, so that was cool.

This morning I had some does sneak up on me. They were out of bowrange though.

I waited just over an hour and decided to move my blind and get setup for this afternoon.

Finished up and went to my car to change and head home, out of nowhere this big ass 10 point comes bounding over, exactly after I zipped my bow up.

Good news is that the farmer's alfalfa is sprouting and he said it gets hit hard in late fall. I'll have this property down pat next year.

Sounds like hunting to me.

Are you brushing your blind in at all?
The garden is empty now...find another food source.
Will the farmer let you make a corn pile?
Fugg that buck, doesn't this guy have a problem with a doe or two? Do what he asked you to do.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the buck. It was just kind of annoying.

I am brushing the blind in. I am going to ask him about a corn pile. With his farm being certified organic, I don't want to mess with his livelihood. I got my eye on one of the does I saw this morning.

Have you talked to him lately about what he's been seeing?

Do you practice scent control? How do you control your scent?

How/when do you approach your blind?

Do you watch the wind?

I do practice scent control and I am pretty confident in my scent. I shower right before I go with scent control soap. I also don't wear my hunting clothes in the car.

I get to the blind well before I expect the deer to be moving and play the wind on my walk in.

I am lucky with the wind at this farm because it has been blowing in my favor everytime.

He has spoken with me about the movements. I'll probably see him this evening and ask about the corn.

Good questions though, really making me walk through everything I am doing.

I think the deer are watching you walk in and out. I have no idea what your set up looks like, just have a feeling. One of my hunting spots is very hard to get into without blowing everything out. Gotta learn how to deal with it, that's part of hunting.

I'd ask the farmer about any movement he's been seeing and what time of day. Leave that blind and go on a face to face ground hunt in the area he says.
