Corn or find where their are acorns dropping.

Better to use natural things they are attracted to and are already there vs introducing something hat isn't normally there.... Acorns, beans (if they're still green) standing corn etc...

You can try some of the grocery stores. Some may sell their bad apples in bulk. Other than that, try a local apple farm.

This is what bugs me about today's "hunters" they want to buy everything. How about, if you are driving down the road and spot an apple tree...knocking on the door? IMO, you have already trashed the area with that other crap you put out. Don't people just go hunting anymore?

If you want to have your child see deer, do your homework. Scout some areas before you take them. Bait poles that work don't just pop up one day... it ain't like they show it on TV. You don't just dump some magic into the grass and have 180" deer show up.

Rant over

He may be a new hunter. Most of us, including me, fell for the gimmicks. I didn't have anybody to show me how to hunt. I assumed the gimmicks were what you did. Thanks to TOO for setting me straight.

I am not a new hunter but with work schedule and home life didn't have a lot of time to scout and honestly don't hunt as much as I would like have focused on fishing more this year than any other

Real apples are about as good as it gets. The rest of that stuff is more to get your money than to draw in deer. There's no substitute for quality scouting, smart set ups, real apples, acorns and golden acorns. Anything you buy off a shelf at Wal-Mart is best left on the shelf IMO.

Good luck with your 5 year old. My daughter is 3.5 year old has been out with me once and is asking to go again. Spending time with our kids in the woods is as good as it gets!

He went out last year and towards the end of the season well not the end but where he could handle the cold he was finally able to sit part of the way still I hope he sees something it isn't about the kill but something to get him excited to go out again and I didn't buy the swamp donkey stuff was wondering what anyone thought about it a guy at work gave me some of it I only buy the salt blocks and mineral blocks and I keep them fresh all year I also run a feeder all year also but that area we don't hunt at all
