Busted!

So... you get busted by a deer. It's after dark, you get to the ground in your climber and make some noise accidentally and a deer blows 20 yards away. How long do you wait to hunt that spot again?

I usually only wait maybe 3-4 days. Now, if it was after a morning hunt and it was daylight I would wait a week or so. Jumping deer after dark or before light they tend to not pay to much attention to it but let them catch you in daylight and it's a different story for some reason lol.

Do you have a certain buck your after that's moving in daylight now or are you just looking for a doe?
I didn't put any cameras out this year, so no certain buck. but, there were two that came out of the bedding area right at dark that I'm pretty sure they were bucks. I think there is a good spot to set up on where they came from and I'd like to get another crack at one of them but I don't want to blow the place out this early in the year.
I'm not sure what busted me. I thought they had moved off and I hadn't heard anything else come in.

Scouting pays off, man Whether it's trail cams or binoculars. Just remember that.

I did tons of scouting all spring/summer. I saw lots of bucks from big to small. I have never killed a buck so I'm not going to zero in on one. the one I want to kill is the first to present me with a shot. This was one of the spots low on my list that I never had time to check. Decided since it was hot and the wind was bad for my other spots I'd walk in and check it out. Turns out it's probably one of the better spots on this public.

And, until now I've never really hunted just for a buck. I just hunted deer and kind of hoped a buck would happen by but was always happy taking does. So this is all new to me. Last year I would have shot at least one doe, probably two out of there yesterday and been taking a couple of weeks off ;)

If you're hunting with a climber, and wanna hunt the same area, get back in there, and get up a different tree. I have used this to my advantage before to kill deer. If they are that bothered by you coming down in the dark, they may try to skirt that area next time and if you're in a different tree, you can catch them off guard.

If I get blown at in the dark I will either bark like a dog or if possible hit the coyote call. Rather them think it's something natural in their environment then a person. Maybe it works, maybe not, but I feel a little better about it at least.

I do this, as well as snorting at them. I've called deer back in my snorting. It's also why I carry a yote howler in my pack. Pretty easy way to clear a field.

During daylight I carry one of those cheap fawn cans. If I make some noise I just hit that a couple of times. I've also heard of people using turkey calls for this reason. Great way to get kids through the woods!

Alot of that decision weighs on the number of places you have to hunt on homie. If you have multiple tracts give it a rest and hunt another spot for a week or so. If not get back in there just be wise. Good luck
I'm hunting the 2,265 acres of public land that I live next to. I have 14 "spots" and about another dozen I'd like to throw the climber on my back and walk into. My weekend starts Tuesday I think I'm going to try to get in there real early for a morning hunt if the wind is right.

Good stuff. I'll definitely have to get some kind of call to help cover.
I've never been too concerned with being busted after dark and usually had deer come by again shortly after but I've never hunted a mature buck either. Just trying to learn as I go here.
