Birds of prey.

I know upland bird hunting. But what about birds that hunt in the upland.

This guy has been hanging around on this power line tower across the street for over a week. All I know is that he is o e big bird. The tower he is on is a good 400 yds from my house.

I don't think so. There are decent bodies of water close by. I think it's a large hawk.

If you look to the right of the picture, at the cross bracing of the tower. It makes an x. That x is anywhere from 4-5' tall. (I know I climbed up there once, but that's a different story). I would venture to say that if that bird was to be pirched on the ground beside me it's head would be at if not above my knee.

I know people have mixed feeling about "birds of prey" but I think they are cool.

The local crows have been hassling a nest of Red tail hawks all summer around my house... So I have been trying to thin out the crows. When they go after the little red tails they are distracted so that's when I strike...

I'm one of those mixed feelings guys. I honestly don't know enough about them though. Other then, they are the closest thing to dinosaurs on the planet.

I have a love hate relationship. I love seeing them but they harass the pheasants bad. Usually take a few out as soon as I release them.

Redtails, crows, black birds and buzzards, if any of ever become a delicacy erie, sandusky and seneca counties will be set.

I find them fasinating as well particularly owls and kestrels. The only time they bother me is when they steal my ducks before I can retrieve them. I have made it a habit to water swat a couple coots as a gift for them so ospreys and eagles leave my ducks. Symbiotic relationship.

Visited the Ottawa national wildlife refuge a few weeks ago and it was birds of prey day there, they had birds that had been rescued on display, we got to get up real close to see them. It gave me a new perspective on them rabbit and pheasant killers.

Always enjoy spotting a hawk waiting for it's prey or seeing one pounce on something on the sides of roads. A while back I watched one on the back of a mallard that was trying to get away, don't think it did though.

A couple years ago I had a baby kestrel I found in the back yard. It was just too tired to fly. I got it and put it in my cabin for the night. Took it to the local bird sanctuary the next day. There was some more that still hung around, but they are no longer calling my back yard home.

Always look forward to the broad winged hawk migration every fall. If you catch it on a good day you can see hundreds and sometimes thousands of them in kettles circling .

Just saw this thread! I too am fascinated and respect the way these birds are so effective at hunting! My faves are the owls but like and admire them all!
