Someone call BoBo and his crew!

I've lived in bear country and I'm not sure what my reaction to seeing something like this would be. That's crazy! Animals sure are determined creatures.

GW should put it out of its misery. Probably having a tough time just surviving right now.

Oh wait.. I forgot about the death threats and endless outrage of social media should that happen.

We should continue to call it Pebbles, take videos of it and just enjoy watching how cute it is that it walks like us now!

BTW - my little rant wasn't directed at you, fletch, or anyone else on here. I got really ticked at the "Pebbles the walking bear" narrative as opposed to what it should be - "Bear so badly injured and in pain that it is forced to walk on it's hind legs."

If they aren't going to put the animal down, then I hope they at least tranquilize the thing and give it the proper veterinary care it needs. Probably won't survive the winter otherwise.

You bring up a great point. That was kinda how I felt when I read the story. No way could he survive in the wild, he couldn't catch food or fight to take food. Being in the city...he has trash cans, bird feeders, gardens, and probably some people feeding him. So it might have a chance.

Another side of this made me think of the danger involved with an injured bear wondering around neighborhoods.

I don't know enough about this story to pass judgement though either. Maybe he's been like this for years? Hard telling

Blan... Never thought it was directed at me.... From what I'm told Pebbles,wasn't that bad off. And with all the dumpsters around I'm sure he didn't have any problem's finding food....

Good deal, man.

Still hate to see a bear that has to live like that. Hopefully the game warden is keeping an eye on the situation.

Dave had another good point - an injured bear probably isn't the safest thing to have around town.

Any bear around houses like that and injured needs removed... This one habilitated and moved... Just not natural watching that bear getting around like that ...

"J" Bears around houses,schools etc. are common here in New Jersey. We are talking New Jersey.. We have had a big explosion in our bear pop. Just TOO many of them for a small populated state. That's why they are having an early season this year with bow and muzzle loader. I had a mom and 2 cubs go through my yard last week... A common occurance....

It appears that it has happened, that the beloved Pedals is no more, that he was "murdered" in a legal hunt. Cue outrage and death threats:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/outrage...-hunt-appears-to-have-killed-pedals-the-bear/

This past week, there was a controversial bow-and-arrow bear hunt -- which appears to have taken the life of a well-known bear nicknamed Pedals -- because of his upright pedestrian walk.

<snip>

“Every time i think about it it makes me sick to my stomach. It’s horrible,” he said. “Because he’s an innocent bear minding his own business, just searching for food. Never got into trouble, never harmed anybody and you have this idiot who tracked him to hunt him, to kill him.”

People also expressed their outrage on a Facebook page dedicated to Pedals.

<snip>

Some are making death threats against whoever may have killed the bear. A hunter has not been named.

24K anti signed a petition! The hunting community better wake up! Wouldn't surprise me if that number was much higher than the actual number of hunters out there hunting!

24k... wow... but to be honest though, yeah it was legal to shoot that bear but I'm not sure I would have done it. The bear didn't seem to be suffering since he was living there multiple years and you could tell he put on weight in the most recent video. The hunter had to have known who the bear was and what he was gonna get into if he killed it. With the bad light that has been shed on hunting recently he should have thought twice before shooting it. However if he had no idea who this bear was and saw it then I don't blame him, if I didn't know what it was and I saw it injured like that without knowing the history of him I probably would have done the same. A hard call to make...

It sounded like the community raised $15k to fix his paws, wonder why that didn't get put to use sooner.

Yeah, teej, I don't think I would have shot him either, and that right there is what really ticks me off the most. The fact that I would abort a legal shoot because I'd have to then worry about my safety and the safety of my family as a result is just crazy.

And to call it murder? Come on. Murder is a word reserved for people, not animals. But the fact is that this bear had become anthropomorphized, and that's how we get headlines like the one on Drudge.

People have become so disconnected from reality that it's bordering on insanity. I'd be willing to bet that north of 95% of the 24,000 people who signed that petition are meat eaters. But I'd also be willing to bet that very few of them has ever thought about their hypocrisy. And the ones who have thought about it are content to just bury it back down in their fantasy world where they believe that as long as it's from the grocery or McDonalds, nothing really died.

Sorry to rant, but this stuff really works me up.

The situation is beyond ridiculous and it's only going to get worse.

Somebody will find out who shot it and let the cat out of the bag.... Then the death threats will start....
Sad that these fuggin bleeding heart liberals are as clueless as they are....
