Yes. He might have altered it for a detachable magazine or a folding stock. But this is more or less how it started.

Actually a polymer stock is a lot better than a bamboo stock to that fits a viet cong who weighs 100lb soaking wet.

Sounded like an AK on the news the night it happened. Unmistakably a 7.62 and not a 5.56 though. And the ghetto thugs really like AKs so I figured that's what it was. The SKS can be modified for removable mags though so it could still be that.
