FOR SALE Ideas on many outdoor/hunting items

Hello, I am new to the forum and I am seeking some advice. I would like some ideas on how to liquidate many outdoor and hunting items from the estate of a recently passed avid outdoorsman. Does anyone have ideas other than ebay, craigslist, etc? The task is daunting, and the online search for each item in order to get some idea of value, is becoming too time consuming. Any advice would be awesome. I chose the for sale prefix because it was most closely related. Thank you

Ebay. Craigslist. Auction. Garage sale. Take it to a flea market and rent a spot for the weekend.

Where are you located? County or even general location like (NW Ohio) would suffice. We do some flea market type shows. If it was inventory I felt I could move I would consider buying it all in one shot.

Welcome and sorry for your lose. this is a very honest group of people here and you could probably move most of your items on here. Or at least give you an honest answer of what the items worth. Start posting some pics and see what happens.

Thanks for all the posts. There are all kinds of items - duck/turkey/goose/crow/deer/owl calls, binoculars, and XXL to XXXL hunting clothes - are the main things I am concerned with. Many of them are vintage and are not available anymore, and I believe they are popular items. No traditional bows, but 2 cross bows. The camera I have access to doesn't take very good pics, and I am somewhat technologically challenged. I will try to post the 2 pics I have of the one call that seems to be very popular. If someone would want to buy something, do I receive the money, then send the item or how does that work? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for the input. Location is the Canton area.

Its super important for you to get a reliable estimate of value because those numbers will help you choose the way you sell.
Get on ebay and type in the name of the items and look thru the listed bids,

If you have several guns, call about 3 auctioneers to find out their commission for selling, 20%??? Kiko auctioneers are in canton and sell guns frequently although I have been unhappy with some of their shenangans, like incorrect advertising a 30 gun auction that in reality had 12 badly rusted junk..
You might want to talk to ex hunting partners of the deceased for advice.
Non gun items might do well on craigs list but that involves arranging to meet complete strangers at your residence.
You might want to rent a spot at the Hartville flea market and listen to offers.

On duck/turkey calls, I am clueless. I do know some calls and even old decoys can fetch serious coin. I would not be one to assist in putting a value on them. I do know several auctioneers who are pretty good at valuing things like this. If you are in NW Ohio or even close to Michigan, I do know several auctioneers with good expertise in these items. There is a fine line you walk. You will obviously want to get as much as you can, but there is a balance between getting a fair value selling it all as one lot vs trying to get top dollar for each item. If you go an item at a time and try to maximize your income, often times you are left with a large pile of items with little value. I say this because it could be a selling tool for you. Trust me on this one as I have been stuck before. If you have someone interested in a large portion of the stuff, don't be afraid to tell them they need to take it all. Say they want 1/2 the items and those are the items holding decent value. Tell them they need to take it all. You don't want a bunch of garage sale stuff you can't get rid of.

Don't be scared of this website either. There are a lot of truly good people here. I don't see anyone trying to rip you off. If it looked that way, likely others would jump on them. It is the internet though. There are unscrupulous people out there.

Thank you for the information! I am working on getting a list together of what I have, but it may take a day or two. I have researched many of the calls I have, and I am satisfied with the price I came up with for those. The Tom Turpin yelper was a difficult one because pricing was all over the board on it. I didn't know if there was something particular about one that would make it more valuable than another, or not. And, whether or not the one I had was of that particular style. There are also several calls that look very nice, but have no markings on them at all. I am not sure what to do with those.

As far as guns go, I have found an auctioneer already for the sale of those, and it is not Kiko. There honestly won't be 12 badly rusted pcs of junk - I think I would have been upset if I took the time to go to an auction advertising 30 guns and that was what I found. This auctioneer does not have expertise in the calls,
though. I know the owner of these took great pride in his collection, which took many years to amass, and I would like to continue that care of the collection.

HicksLawns - what types of items are of interest to you?

Thanks again....

I will put that list together, then you can tell me if you are interested in any of them, and if so, I will post some pics of those, OK? Thanks

We sell tree stands, ground blinds, etc. Generally all new as we are set up as a dealer. I wouldn't rule out trying different things like some hunting clothes but not sure how well it would move at the shows. I always have guys looking for the cheapest stuff out there in regards to tree stands. Always asking for used stuff. I watch them bring more at auctions than i can get at a show though. If there are only a few of those have the auctioneer add them to the sale list. People will pay new price for a 10yr old tree stand at an auction.

The networking thru shows has put me in front of a lot of guys with different fields of expertise. The guys on this site are top notch as well and have already shown their willingness to help. You found a good website for this. I'm sure you will be able to move the stuff in one way or another. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I'm willing to bet that once you post the list you'll be able to sell a large portion of the inventory for a very fair price right here. Even if nobody wants it we can get you a real close asking price for it. As many years as these guys have been in the words, trade shows, gun shows and buying hunting stuff I'm sure we've seen it all and have a great idea of asking price. Don't worry about getting ripped off as I've never seen that happen on TOO. As for payment and delivery we have guys all over the state and meet up randomly all the time. Don't be shocked if someone asks another member to swing over and give you cash for it and they'll get it from him when they see them next. We call it the redneck express and it says a lot about guys that are willing to go float a couple hundred bucks for a buddy knowing they won't see him for a couple months to give him the item.

I can vouch for this. I have had guys travel thru LIma, grab a tree stand to drop to a guy in Toledo. My parents have taken items to Columbus to visit my siblings and met up with TOO members to deliver. I've had guys send me money I have never met trusting they would receive the item I was shipping them. This is a stand up crowd.
