So like many other too members, I buy and am a member of sportsman guide. Sportsman guide sells military surplus gear along with outdoor gear. So I am looking through the some of the sales and I see "used military issued shin guards", anybody know what the hell these catcher shin guards could possibly used for in the military?

What Dustin said. Riot control, base security reaction force, used them a lot in Korea as oar of the BASF team to show force when thousands of people would protest outside the base.

Ha! A better question is what don't they protest about. Mostly it college kids but there will be thousands of them. Every Friday the shutdown the base because they block the gates protesting. They hold signs like Yankee go home. Etc. While there are a lot of them there who appreciate what we did for them 65 years ago there are a lot that aren't happy about a US military occupying force hunkered down inside their country. Just like people here wouldn't be happy if the British had based all over America. Other times it was incident related. Military vehicle accident kills a civilian, army guy murders a hooker. Typical stuff like that.

Basically South Korea's version of Bernie Sanders supporters

The hookers are called juicy girls. Prostitution is illegal. But it's not illegal to buy a girl a drink in a juicy bar that cost $40 and is nothing more than a shot of juice so they can take you in the back and blow you "Buy me drinkey" is their motto. Prices vary. In Itaewon aka "hooker Hill" right off base in youngsan there's a street that goes uphill. On the right side there are regular clubs, on the left there are juicy bars. Typically tthey're only frequented by the second infantry guys from up north who only get a weekend pass about once a month. Us rear echelon motherfuckers could leave base whenever we wanted. We would get away from the typical G.I. hang outs and go more towards the university areas. As a tall white dude with blue eyes who can dance it wasn't hard at all to be rolling in free chicks.
