I've never been to one. Always figured it was like going to a high school reunion, bunch of guys wanting to look better than the other. "Look at me" type of bullshit. Is that accurate, or am I way off?

Last year was the first one I've ever been to. I didn't really see much of that, but maybe I just ignored the idiots, Idk. I liked looking at the deer heads and they also have alot of turkey calls, some made by guys in Ohio. Might sit in on one of the seminars this year.

You do have to listen to turkey calls all day. The seminars are usually pretty decent. There is a mix of stinky Amish and guys wearing perfume in their Scent Locker jackets walking around. Plenty of decent people as well. The days of "going to the expo to get some good deals" I believe are over. If you wanted to book a hunt anywhere you could do it here. If you want to see new products you can see them (although we have it pretty good and reinventing the wheel isn't going to kill a deer any better than the products we already have available). I would suggest: IF you have never been to one, I suggest you try it at least once rather than listening to our opinions. They aren't for everyone, but the deer heads are pretty cool to look at.

Dave, I've been to a dozen or more since its inception and I'm sure you might find a little of that but it's that noticeable from what I could tell. If you have a deer you'd like to get officially scored its a good time to do that but it's mostly a bunch of hunters jammed into one big ass building with about 6-8 long isles/streets lined with booths. TV celebs, outfitters and people selling hunting stuff basically. The latest quads,4x4's parked in an area, a small encloser with live deer, bears and what not, target range,flint/glass arrowhead napping and a long L shaped wall of deer people brought to get scored and entered into the contest. There's an awards show afterwards.
Like Chads also mentioned, there are like 3 curtained off areas with chairs or small bleachers in the corners where seminars are going on. I've never sat in on one but I'd like to take in a Byron Ferguson traditional bow trick shooting show sometime!

Warning: If you plan on eating there, it's like fair food. Tasty and expensive!! Lol

It's worth going one time just to experience it but every year it's the same. Hope this gives you some insight.

I see Phil posted while I was typing. He has some good insight as well! I'd go once so you at least experience one but if you see one, you've seen em all.

I've sat in on Byron Ferguson a couple of times now and each time was as good as the last. He seems very down to earth and just generally like a nice guy. He signed a knife for me and I lost the sum bitch like a dill weed

I went last year for the first and possibly the last time.

I was not impressed at all.... I liked seeing the deer heads and picked up a few minutes of a seminar.

It was just a bunch of dudes waling around with bone collector-ish clothing.....

I can get more learning done on my own through podcasts, YouTube, TOO and Internet....

Byron Ferguson does those seminars all weekend long, every year. It is completely amazing to see him live. Well worth the time spent. I did not feel it was believable when seeing him on Impossible Shots. I always figured it was staged/trick cameras/ or hundreds of takes to film the show. The dude does it live all weekend long. Over and over he repeats some of his impressive shots.

Ya couldn't pay me enough to go to one. I went a couple times 12-14 yrs ago for something to do, and that was enough.
