Crazy Hunt Sunday

Had a pretty good shoot on the River Saturday, mixed bag of Gaddy's, Buffies and Mallards. Sunday was crazy, blowing 20mph with gusts of 30 river was rough. Snowing so hard visibility down to 50yds at times. Had a break in the snow, black duck decoyed in perfect, made clean shot dropped about 40yds out. Released Cooper as he grabbed the duck and spun around, out of nowhere a bald eagle swooped down headed directly for my dog. I yelled and ran toward it startling the eagle. It was 3 foot over his head with talons down when i scared it. Damn thing circled and dove again, but didnt commit this time. I can tell you I wasnt going to let him hit my dog protected or not, glad it didn't come to that. I have witnessed Eagles snatching snow geese out of mid air decoying in Kansas. The eagle had to have been sitting in a tree watching the whole thing Coop.jpg. Coop, is now demanding hazzard pay for retrieves in Eagle territory. Not my best hunt but one I won't soon forget.

Dog or eagle... I'll be unpatriotic for a minute. Glad he didn't get the dog. That'd do some serious damage.

I think we all as working dog owners would do the same.... Glad it did t come too that.... Hazard pay would be extra treats and extra time in the lap... lol

When I lived in AK I'd see a bald eagle carrying a dog at least once a year. Never a full sized dog though! I'm not sure what that eagle would've been thinking. Maybe he was just gonna snatch the duck?

Yes just his head was above water, so small profile. I see Eagles almost every hunt at a distance, this was a little too close. It was a Juvy, but still big bird.
