I was just glancing through the manual of my trail cam that I have been using all season (works good and is first trail cam) and noticed it said do not remove or insert SD card without fully powering down the camera. I never do that and don't have any problems. Does it matter? Also I use 2 different SD cards one in while one is out and the book said something about formatting the card which again I've never done and not had an issue. Matter of fact I don't even know what formatting it means. Since I'm not having problems should I even worry about this stuff?

I don't format my cards every time and use multiple brands of cameras with no issues. I do delete everything off the card every time I check it though.
As far as shutting off the cam when you switch out cards, I think that's a good idea. I know it messes with some brands if you don't shut them off.

Yeah you should shut the camera off. Also, when you're on your computer you need to properly eject the card. If you don't you can end up corrupting the file system and potentially lose your images.
