Tools every man would love to own (or have at their disposal)

Huckleberry has an outstanding thread (Stickie worthy in my opinion) about "tools every man should own." I have enjoyed reading it and was thinking there should be a thread for tools we would all love to own (or have to use at our disposal). Dannmann comes to mind here. I know he has a fascination for tools that tear stuff up. . . Stump grinders, massive chipper shreaders. .. . I have been fortunate in the growth of our business. I have acquired a few of these such items which I never would have guessed I would own. When I started 18yrs ago in business, it was basic hand tools, wheel barrows, basic equipment. I always dreamed of owning an extended cab, long bed, 4x4, Cummins diesel, dually. I have been fortunate enough to own two of them, and now a crew cab version. This has all come in steps. Growing one item at a time, and updating a little here and a little there.

My current favorite: 3pt chipper shreader we hook to our 43hp Kubota. That thing is the cats meow. Accepts up to 8" limbs although I limit it to about 2-3" because we burn anything bigger.

Tomorrow we take delivery of a 72" skid loader mounted snow blower. I am really looking forward to seeing this puppy throwing snow 50+'.

I am a lot different than most because we use these for work versus most people who could never truly justify stuff like this. Even so, there are items i would like to have some day.

Plasma cutter. I don't have one. I don't have a lot of use for one. I would like to own one some day.

Stihl 660 or 880 chainsaw. This one I might own eventually, but the MS361 does most of what I need it to do. Those big boy chainsaws are wicked mean. I have run a 660 and it isn't for the weak, timid, or inexperienced.

Bull dozer. I truly don't need one. The times I have needed one I have hired the work out. They sure look like a blast!

Skid steer. I keep contemplating one. Great for any outside work like fences and decks. Handy as hell and could move snow with it in the winter (if we ever have it or if my winters ever slow down).

I also need/want a 16' dump trailer. It is my next purchase.

No doubt Charles. If you have any ground to maintain, a skid steer with forks and a bucket or two, and/or a tractor with loader and assortment of attachments are invaluable. I don't own a "ton" of property, but use the heck out of ours. Even our lightest used skid loader saw around 70hrs of use last year. It sits most of the time. Tomorrow it will go sit on a parking lot the rest of the winter "just in case" we see snow.

D6 dozer. I'd get my Tim Taylor on all the time...
Now you're talking!

A dozer is on my list, although a D6 is bigger than I'd need. A D3 or D4 would work I think. Beener mentioned a skid steer... Yep, I'll take one of those too, as long as it included unlimited funds for attachments. Those timber axe's and log splitter attachments will make forest management a breeze. I can think of a lot of things but one tool I'd really love to own would be a lift in a nice garage. Working on vehicles would be so much more enjoyable if I didn't have to crawl underneath shit and destroy my lower back.

A nice garage or shop. . . . A thread in itself. Good call Jim. A new shop is in the works whether this spring or in the next couple years. When it is built, it will have a lift. When it is built, it still won't be big enough.

I'm in the need of a shop before I even look at another drill bit! My 2.5 car garage doesn't even fit a mower at this point.

Although...if I come across a 36" planer inexpensive...I'm sure I could build a shed or something to get me by for a while.

Garage/shops are the best tool too have and need a lot of planning before hand... After years of talking with people who've had them built you always walk away with a little more insight of what too do when you do one of your own... Garage doors too height of ceilings too floors too lofts.... Lots of thoughts too put in the process..... If you think the door is wide enough, go anger foot, if you think the ceiling will be high enough go another 3 foot.... Once it's built your stuck with that decision always remember at....

Walbridge oh
I'll take a Case 580 Super N with a nice trailer with a nice single axle dump truck to pull it around with. I could make some extra $$$$ with that set-up!!!

I recently found a need for a torch so that would be first on the list.

A welder, heck any kind would be nice.

Shitload of various air tools....I ain't got many now so I'm seeing the need for them all lately LOL!

Backhoe &/or dozer, trailer and one heck of a truck to pull it with.

I'm in a different camp. I have the very minimal amount of tools and don't really want any more. A rake, hoe and shovel and a few sockets, ratchets and wrenches, a claw hammer and a pair or two of pliers. Oh wait I forgot, an electric chain saw and my Craftsman tractor. I never spent much on tools. If I need something done I usually hire someone.

Careful... Your man card is dangerously close to being revoked. The electric chainsaw does not help. Hahahaha

I need a log splitter within the next couple years, and a generator. We'll be building on our land within 3 years so those 2 are crucial.

Our tractor is handy but a skid steer and a zero turn is the preferred route if anyone is in that dilemma. Lol
