I was going to buy a Savage 220 but instead bought a H&R 444. Put a Leupold 3-9-40 scope on it and shot it out to 200 yards. I am very impressed with this gun. Just wish we had a 250 yard shooting hill because I think its within the range of this gun. Below is my 3 shot group at 200 yards with a lead sled.
Hornady ammo.

Good shooting. Be sure to go onto Hornady web site and print up a cheat sheet chart. As you it has a rainbow flight path. I shoot the 45-70 and sighted in for 200 yds and at 250 it's like 14" low already.

I can only find 100 yard increments on the Hornady web site and it shows 1.4" low at 200 and 18.6 at 300. I read that its 7.5" low at 250 elsewhere. Has to be good to 225. For point and shoot i'll take that.
The extra 75 yards over my 12 gauge will come in handy. And the ammo is a lot cheaper and easier to find.

Here you go use this site. This what I used to do my 45-70 cheat sheet. Estimate your volocity.http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-resource/ballistics-calculator

Good shooting, As good as the Savage 220 is I think you made a good choice between the .444 and the slug gun.
