Has anyone on here ever done an Ohio hog hunt? I was looking to possibly do one sometime in 2016 and didn't know if anyone had any recommendations on an outfitter or a public hunting park in Ohio.

Unless you intend to use an african spear, not much exciting to high fence ops. then when its dead, some taxidermist will hit you for $500 to mount it.

Yea double d ranch.
High fence and pretty much turn hogs loose before ya get there and walk you all around to make ya feel like you're hunting but they know where the hogs are hanging out.
Know a guy that use to guide for them.
Not my kinda hunt or i guess you could call it a shoot.

Yea that's not what I wanna do at all. I've read some reviews of them online that said the hogs there were pretty much domestic and it wasn't a hunt.

I don't think there's many opportunities to hunt wild hogs in Ohio. I know a guy that hunts them in Texas once a year or so. That sounds expensive if you don't have friends or family there.

There's actually a fella who's only job is to trap hogs for the state. He provided a buddy and me with some boar he caught. I think he's trapping them at Zaleski, but I'll find out for sure.

There's a couple of guys that hunt them with dogs also. I hear they do pretty good. Both guys I know about chase them on public land also.

I was talking to my brother in law and he was saying there were some hogs down in southern Ohio but he didn't know a lot so I looked up outfitters and wasn't very impressed. I may have to go to another state to hunt them. It's just something on my bucket list.

I've told people on here before that you can load up a trailer, drive to Georgia, kill a hog and be back home before you found your first hog track in Ohio. There just aren't that many and the ones that are here are very nomadic.

Georgia here I come lol. I just didn't know if anyone could shred more light on hunting them in Ohio. Now I see it isn't really a plausible thing to do.

The enclosure is about 100 acres and full of hogs. Most are just feral pigs. If you want a true razorback they have those too but I believe they let those loose right before the hunt. It's pretty much a joke for hunting and more like shooting. The place I used to hunt in Vinton was close enough that we could pick up their "guides" radio traffic. It was always comical they would take a guy out and radio back the location of the pigs. The guy would shoot one and they would tell the other guides where they ran off too so the next guy in line could go shoot one.

And for some reason they had a bunch of goats. Not bighorn, just plane jane fuggin goats. Lol.

The wild hogs in Ohio are being eradicated by the DNR. They are using a very sophisticated round cage trap that is cell phone activated. Once the trap is full of hogs, they fire it and go collect in the middle of the night. They even count the unborn piglets in their stats. (Which does make sense). They had one set up on a co-workers property not long ago. It set for several weeks with nothing happening. Hence Joe's statement of being nomadic. One evening they were signaled and when the dust cleared, they had like 34 head count in the cage. All hogs are killed and tested. Landowners are given first choice of any/all meat. Co-worker got 18 I do believe and passed the meat around. If you opt out of the meat, they have a list to make sure all meat is not wasted. So if you do have hogs running around, you just may be able to have someone come in and get the meat for you!

We don't have any hogs in my area I just want to go on a hog hunt lol. I'd probably be better off going out of state and being able to do some real hunting rather than settle for a gimmick like that double d ranch. I don't wanna just shoot something anyhow I want to hunt the hogs and enjoy the pursuit of them.

My buddy has them on his property but like Joe said they are nomadic, there for a few days then gone and back again weeks later.
They are trapping them down the road from his property and have caught lots of them.
Here are a few pics my buddy got a couple yrs ago.
If they would keep coming consistantly i would go down and hunt them with him.

Thx for the input guys. A lot of the points yall brought up helped me to see it isn't worth my time or money to peruse an Ohio hog hunt. I'll most likely go down south and try one. I've got some family in the Carolinas so I may see what's up with the hog population down there.
