Whats everyones thoughts about hunting in the high winds? I have the day off to hunt tomorrow and of course we are going to have 50mph gust. Im planning on being in the woods no matter what but i wanted to see what everyone thinks. Deer should still be moving right?

Find some pines and/or big timber.

Also be sure to make a plan and share it with someone. That way if something happens, they can hopefully find you fast enough to save your life...

I don't do high winds. I nearly fell out of the stand 3 years ago in a 20-25 mph kind of day when it whipped up and shook the tree with a sudden jolt. I was standing up and it threw me off balance. Thankfully I was facing the tree and was able to grab it to prevent me from falling. I hate for that reason and because I can't hear. Not to mention that around here, deer really hunker down when it gets above 20 mph.

I've been out in high winds a few times in the last couple years. Didn't feel safe in the stand so I hunted on the ground. Saw a few deer but they were all very jumpy and skittish. They kind of ran in, looked around real quick and ran off. That's been my experience and usually just stay in when its like that now.

It essentially robs them of their 3 strongest senses. Hard to ear obviously. Harder to smell cause it's getting whipped around and blown past at warp speed. And it screws with their eyes because everything is moving, so see a predator move is much harder. It has to be a bummer for them too.

I feel the wind bothers us more than the deer. They seem to be more skittish but still move about. I have had some great hunts on very windy days. It's just a miserable time for us to be in the woods and is a good excuse to take the day off. Not to mention it's unsafe!

Well looks like winds around 13 mph until 10 then getting closer to twenty so hopefully something good walks by early. Can't kill them in the house. Good luck to those going out today.

Don't let these winds scare you guys, just saw two bucks cruising an overgrown field, this wind ain't gonna stop them from searching for hot does!

I just had a tree come down, well, half a tree. So be extra careful if those antlers are throwing caution to the wind... Might be a good day to glass from the truck. Could put a hell of a stalk on it this wind. Not sure how true an arrow would fly though?
