What's my Truck Worth ?

Well last week on the way home the transmission started to slip and in less than 200 yards it quit wanting to go ( transmission is trashed IMO )

OK it is a 2003 Chevy Silverato 1500 with the small V8 ...I think a 302
One of the "Work Truck " line they made years back

So right now it is at the Transmission shop to see how much it will cost to fix

So right now I am looking at buying a "New" to me smaller SUV , Explorer size ...not just a ford ....just the first one I looked at

OK the truck also needs a new Catolitic Converter as the light is on and I had the repair shop check out why the light was on a while back

So what I am asking
If I get the transmission fixed and spend the $400 + cost to install it Converter in ....just what the truck would be worth ?
The truck has 120K miles , but at 55K the oil pump went and a factory rebuilt motor was installed
The truck is in decent shape ...but has a few dings and a spot or 2 of rust starting

Best Guess on what I could get out of it ?.....I know you can't see it for a great answer
But a guess ?

Thanks
John

I imagine the rockers, cab corners possibly wheel wells and fuel door are rusting, im assuming its a regular cab long bed with manual locks and manual windows since you said work truck line, alot of variants go into it of course but at times some vehicles arent even worth fixing, trans I imagine could be around 3k to fix, do you have paperwork with the motor swap? Motor is probably a 4.8LV8 and would say so on the top plastic cover on the motor by saying 4800. www.kbb.com is a good website to get a reference of what its worth, but of course at the end of the day its worth what someone will pay for it.

2 WD
Cap
Wheelwells are OK
Some rust under the Doors

Yea I have the paperwork ...the dealer was not happy I insisted on a free loaner ...as they said they were going to loose $$ putting in the replacement motor LOL

Thanks

All fixed with trans and all just from what you have told me it's worth about 4-5k. A rust free 80,000 mile Silverado 1500 2wd reg cab v8 are listed around 7000-9000. Check auto trader and see what they are listing them at and go from there. From my experience, because I am looking for a truck and am searching all the time, from what it sounds all fixed worth about 4-5 if rust is minimal, and as she sits is about 1500-2000.

I'd keep it. Sounds like it's in pretty good shape and those motors last a long time and sip the fuel. Kinda surprised you had issues with a 4L60 at 120,000 miles. Being a W/T model and 2wd it's really not worth a lot. I would fix it and drive it for another 200,000 miles.

Depending on the rust under it, you might want to have the brake lines looked at too while its at the shop. They are known to rust out and fail. It's a way more common issue than motor or trans problems.

I agree with Ryan. 4-5K. You can go to NADA.com and get a pretty close price. Somewhere between the private party value and trade in value is probably close to what you'd get for it if you sold it.

If it was me I would get another transmission from a junk yard. Should be able to get one for around $600 I would guess. Replace the cat. If you need someone to help install trans or cat let me know. I will help.
