Has anyone tried any rattling, grunting, bleating yet this season. I plan on doing a little but of tickling of the tines tomorrow morning. I know there is a lot of bucks in my area and they should all be hard horned by now. So they aught to be doing some sparing? I can't wait!

I tickled my tine this morning. My wife wasn't amused... lmao

Good luck out there. It's a little early for me to be calling, but you never know. Stranger things have happened.

I have witnessed two bucks sparring this week. Last night i heard what sounded like a full blown fight. No visual on the deer. The bucks I watched spar I can verify. The full blown fighting sounds last night? I suspect it was the jackasses hunting the next property over. If you tickle the tines, I would leave it at a tickle. No need to go Rocky Balboa on them. Some sparring isn't uncommon right now so it isn't going to sound odd to them. I wouldn't do it real long or loud if it were me. That is just me though. Good luck.

If it was me, I wouldn't do any calling right now. Save it for the end of this month. I also would be staying out of buck hunting property until the end of this month, unless your scouting tells you otherwise. There's no point in going in to hunt bucks that aren't showing themselves until after dark.

I don't there is a bad time to tickle them. I've never seen a deer run away after hearing it. Along the same lines as a fawn bleating for me.

That about sums it up right there

Just a little tickle is all I plan to do. I figure it can't hurt. I'm hunting the edge of a corn field 40 yards from a river crossing. With a grassy clearing between the field edge and the river at my 3 o'clock.

I have heard of people tickling tines and killing deer, but to me, it's a myth. I have watched an awful lot of young bucks sparring early in the season, like now, but have never seen a deer I was interested in come charging in to watch or fight. Rattling, like you mean it, works like a charm for me. But, I usually don't even carry the horns with me until after the first of November.

I've rattled deer into bow range on quite a few occasions, and they came charging, but like Brock I have never rattled one in that was a shooter in my book.

The week leading up to the opener and both days of opening weekend I watched a group of 4 bucks in a particular area. One was a hoss, and another a 130s 10-pointer. These bucks sparred with each other almost every day I saw them. So no, I don't think at all that rattling right now is a bad idea. I think you just have to be smart about it to create realism.
