A buddy texted me back and said it was a Jap type 30 bayonet. If it was in Korea it was either brought there by a GI that got it in WWII and then went to Korea. Or it was from the Japanese occupation of Korea that was from 1910-1945.

I believe your friend is 100% correct. How long is that blade?

Your buddy is correct. My uncle had several he brought home from ww2. He had a jap rifle and sword as well, along with other things. 36 months in s pacific combat, didnt collect a thing until they cleared the last of the japs from Korea AFTER the war ended. They didnt know they had lost...

It old items could talk. My grandfather never spoke of the war. All I know is that he was at Chosin reservoir and was wounded. The bayonet was in an old GI footlocker that for as long as I can remember was in the bottom of his closet. The locker isn't his but was full of his stuff. It had another soldiers name and SN on it. To this day it's in the bottom of my closet and will likely remain as such until I pass. The way I see it is my grandfather had it for a reason. I may not know the reason but it was obviously important to him so it is to me.

The bayonet still has some dried blood on the blade. Who knows whose it is. I like to think its the blood of the Jap who owned it after someone ran him through with his own blade.

I would think it belonged to a dear friend of his.

Yes. If old items could talk...

That's always been my thought as well. I also have the field manual to his 57mm recoilless rifle. Pretty neat weapon. He did say once that everyone wanted 57mm support, but they always wanted it from over there. The reason being the big cloud of dirt the backblast kicked up always gave away the position.
