Tonight in it started to set in. I got the field blind out to get ace oriented with it.... the old man ran right in and laid down.... poor guy still has it in his heart.

It's hard to retire a working dog... Next too losing them it's about the toughest thing you'll do....

Don't give up on Leo too soon... He's still got it. Just save a few really easy hunts for him. He's got to get a few more hunts in!

I'm just worried. About him not being able to hear

Yea, I'm with J. I've hunted around a few aged seasoned gun dogs and by the time they get that old they're pretty much on autopilot... at least the good ones are... and Leo knows the drill. Tell ya what, bring him up here for a teal hunt and let's find out!

Why do I need a new field blind?

It just looked like the old man was laying claim to that one. I know I have some things around that I like to buy new once something happens. I think something like seeing my old boy in "his" blind would bring back lots of good memories for the both of us. Kinda how I am I guess, lots of people are not this way. Lol, nothing wrong with that.

If you don't trust/have faith in the dog, I think you're doing the right thing by training another one. Good luck to you in your adventures.

Ha I might get him out for some doves. Maybe even some geese

You could probably still let him dry land hunt. Just put his hide beside you and drive a stake with a quick snap and 4-7 links of chain on it. When you want him to go unsnap him.
