Something dug out the gravel under my front sidewalk at the front stoop. One hole on each side. I figured it was a skunk. Last night at 9:30 PM I walked out the front door and the damn think thing came out and seen me and went back in. I kept watching until 3:15 AM but I never seen him out.
So today I put the water hose under there and flooded the area. He didn't come out so I suppose he was out and about. I put back all the gravel and put 2 flat rocks where the holes were. I'll see if that runs him off.

Hog nosed skunks are much larger than our regular skunks. Plus the black and white colors are different with all white top. 25 yrs. ago about 10 mile North of here I used see the same type dead on the road.
I seen my 1st one here in 1999 and it was at least 48" nose to tip of the tail. I've seen smaller ones and one female with a litter of both types of young ones.

That's Cool!
I didn't know that. I'll have to look at the locals more closely.

That link you posted says they don't live here. :smiley_chinrub:

I think you saw a great big regular skunk.

Nope. The color is reversed and the experts don't get everything correct. Up until 5-10 yrs. ago there wasn't any coyotes in Ohio either according the expert maps.
When is the last time you seen a skunk 48" long nose to tail tip? I believe 1-2 yrs. ago I posted pictures of these.

The damn thing is back as it dug out the hole again. I last looked at midnight and it was OK. Think I'll get a small motor out and put a hose on the muffler and gas it. Only thing stopping me is do I want a dead skunk smell. I read moth balls will drive them away. Nope as it didn't make a difference.
Any ideas on driving it away with some type of item but remember it's 5 ft. from my front door?

I would think if you gas it and then fill it back in and put the stones back on top you wouldn't get any smell..... Just have one hell of a tombstone on top of it is all.....

A farmer I used to help used fox piss to keep them away. I used to have a dog that loved to dig, I'd piss in the holes and fill them. He wouldn't dig in that same spot again. Not sure if any of this will be any help, but I'd think it'd be worth a try.

But I feel you are too far away to come and piss in my skunk hole so I'll try my own. LOL

(I will NEVER shoot one again upwind of the house...Big Mistake.)lol

Maybe too early for the final results as it's been 2 days now and the skunk hasn't come back to dig up the hole I covered up.

I took giles advice and used some pee on the hole. The wife told me today that she said the mothballs would work. She wasn't a happy camper when I told her what I did.

Dang. You should've laid a carpenter square on it's end and set up a trail cam. I'd like to see a picture of this slinky beast.

I thought of that but the cameras are out in the field. I will if the bastard comes back.
