Pain relief

I've been reading about using stinging nettles for pain relief for couple years now in my farm magazine. We have a big patch of stinging nettles growing beside the polebarn so I'm going to give it a try this weekend. My muscle pain is tough on me due to my MS muscle spasms. Wish me luck. Anyone else ever hear of this?
I'm going to cut some plants and make a tea for a dressing. No I'm not going to drink it.

Walked through a patch of nettles one time while wading the maumee river catfishing with shorts on while cutting across a island. Felt like my legs were on fire. If it helps with pain i might try it but i'm not harvesting them thats for sure lol.

One of my hippie friends swears by it! If you do get into a patch of nettles, they are painful, but thankfully, Jewelweed usually grows right along with it. Nothing will take the sting out of nettles as quick as jewel weed! I believe CJD posted a thread on using jewel weed to treat poison ivy a couple of years ago. Works on sunburn and most other skin irritations as well. Great stuff!

Nettles don't affect me at all. My wife hates them and almost cringes when we talk of them. I can pick them, rub them in my hands and nothing.

I look too much at poison ivy and I get it, not uncommon for me to need a steroid shot or pack to get rid of it when I do get it. My wife can pick it, rub it on her and nothing...

Well I'm giving it a try as I type. I wear a brace on my left hand to protect me thumb. Well I screwed up and couldn't find my brace after taking a shower. I shot 20 rounds of 9MM and 20 rounds of 45ACP with my left hand so I could write the chronogragh results down with my right hand. That was a big mistake and my thumb is just pounding with pain.
I went up and got a small stinging nettle plant and I folded up a leaf under the brace now. I'm going to take the rest of the plant and make a tea with for clothe patches.

There is also another plant that has shown remarkable results in the treatment of MS, especially when in edible form.

It's pretty much decriminalized. For possession up to 100g it's a misdemeanor with a $150 max fine and no incarceration. My last speeding ticket was worse than that. Lol. I'm sure you know what 100 grams is but for others it's the equivalent to about 5 packs of cigarettes. The confiscation of the marijuana will hurt the pocketbook way worse than the fine could. Lol.

As for legislation it has my vote. My aunt was recently diagnosed with stage four inoperable lung cancer. She decided to go with the chemo and radiation to help reduce the cancer size and relieve some pain. Of course they gave her a bunch of pain meds also. In her 59 years she has never tried marijuana but reluctantly agreed in brownies at the recommendation of her children. She said it's far more effective at managing her symptoms, pain, and radiation chemo symptoms than the medications they had her on.

I'm very happy to report it's working great. In less than 3 1/2 hrs. 95% of the pain in my thumb joint is gone. Was at my Doctor yesterday for my 90 day check up for my MS. My MS Doctor is also a Rheumatic specialist and he said the only cure since injections no longer work is a surgery to scrape the joint area. Be laid up 3-4 weeks. That won't work during the summer then it's deer hunting so it'll have to be next Jan-Feb.
If this keeps working at least I can get by until then.

My thumb problem is the bottom main joint where the finger joins the hand bones. I wear a brace 24-7 to protect the area from bumping it and limit the thumb movement.

Good deal Frank.... Very happy too see it worked.... Have you tried the tea dressings yet?

I cut up into 1/8" pieces about 6" of the top stem and all the leaves and have it soaking in about 1 oz. of water now.
I just laid a leaf on the sore area and put my brace back on to hold it in place. My wife just shook her head.

I'll crush it up before going to bed and see how it's doing in the morning. Then I'll but the liquid on a cotton dressing. I may even put some of the paste in between the dressing for more effect if needed.

What a amazing results. When I put the single 1x2" leaf on my thumb joint I was a level plus 10 pain. In less than 3.5 hrs. I was at a level 1 pain. This morning the pain level is almost a 'O' and only hurts when I press hard on the joint.
The only side effect was I couldn't sleep last night even after taking my sleep aid. But it might have my excitement of the good results of reduced pain. Time will tell.
I only hope the good results continues. I've been doing some research on stinging nettles and the useful qualities have been know for 100's of years. Clairol in one report used over 40 tons in hair shampoo.
ASAP
Chuck I just laid a 1x2" leaf on my thumb joint skin and it's held in place by my hand brace. It's still there. I just replaced the dried up leave with a new leaf.
The patch beside the polebarn is much smaller than it was in past years. I will look for a new patch in the barn yard not being used right now. I pulled a 24" plant to make into a tea liquid.
