Anyone ever use this stuff? I used the Big-N-Beasty a couple years ago and was pretty amazed with how well it worked. After that learned about some of their products that you don't have to replant every year. Something like 7-8 years before it starts to loose nutritional value. Wondering if anyone else has used this product?

I've contemplated it, but haven't planted any yet. I'm done planting tuber and bulb type food plots. The deer just don't eat them like I feel they should. I'm growing plots worthy of a magazine cover and they go untouched. With the addition of 4-5 acres of corn to accompany 3.5 acres of beans on our place, I'll be going a different route.

In 2012 the deer only eat the green tops off during the dead of winter. In 2013 what few plants the made it through a bad planting the deer eat every bulb and all the green tops during the dead of winter. I'll plant a 1/2 ac. strip in 2015 for the deer and myself as I love turnips as does the boys.
I've read of the same results and it may take 1-2-3 yrs. before the deer understand it's good and then probably when less is available in winter.

I planted 1/ ac. of Big and Beastly in 2014 but I must have covered it too deep and only got couple big patches. The deer eat it to the ground and come spring there was bare patches where it was growing.

I've planted a blend featuring turnip/radish/brassica for 5 years now. They've had time to figure it out. For whatever reason, it's not a food source they really like to eat.

Then I agree it's time to move on or get a different herd of deer.

I have a buddy in Knox county who loves them. I just have trouble paying for them when I can buy 10lbs of turnips from a co-op for about half the cost haha.

Jesse what is my place probably and hour from you up 77. Totally different the first year I planted them the deer demolished the turnips bulbs, leaves, etc.

IMO it is hard to beat grains, espically if you are low on area to plant. I top dress all my plots with oats. Next year it'll be oats, wr, ww. Deer just demolish them

I don't mind paying for the stuff if it's every 10 years. Thats kind where I'm at with this, I want to plant it and forget about it. I don't want to keep planting plots every year or twice a year. The animals absolutely killed the Big-N-Beasty crop. Does anyone have any experience with the perennials? My fear is them eating it to a point that the plants can't recover. Which I guess is a good thing for the deer and would mean the plot is working...

anything that is going to last several years is going to be a clover. They can withstand a ton of browsing, but you will need to mow it, and possibly spray it often. Look up exclusion fences. You can use them so you can see the type of browse your getting.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

I used the big n beasty blend once and had the most deer ever using the plot when season came in, not to mention they hammered the turnips late season. I highly recommend it just based on my success. Only time I have killed a buck out of the plot was the year I planted it.

I guess I should just stick to what works!

just make sure you are doing soil tests. You might wanna plant that plot in clover a couple years, then go back to the big n beasty. Clover is a legume, and will add N to the soil. Brassicas take N out of the soil.

Good luck bud!
