I just read a report given by Florida Fish and Wildlife done by the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service about feral cats.
They report that free ranging feral cats and outside cats kill 1.4-3.7 billion birds and small mammals per year.
Also the cats kill 6.9-20.7 billion larger mammals per year.

Now that is more of a reason to decrease the number of feral cats.

so, on the high end, feral cats kill 24.4 billion birds and small and some larger mammals? bullshit.

one feral cat is one too many, but those numbers are friggn' ridiculous.

All I know is there is more than one feral cat running around. But do the math as there are 100's of million of cats running loose.

I don't think so. Growing up we had a yard cat and it seemed like he killed something every day. Let's say one cat kills 100 critters a year, or one every 3.7 days. I think 2 critters a week is on the low end. That would only require 34 million cats to kill 3.7 billion birds. That's not far fetched at all in my opinion.

Our cat is an inside/outside cat, he kills at least one bird or chipmunk a week. So a cat that's outside all the time shouldn't have any problem killing something every few days.

24.4 Billion birds added to the billions killed by obama wind mills should make robins and the state bird cardinals endangered species. of course no bird lovers are counting all the bald eagles killed by the obama windmills.

Question, why are organizations like "Angels For Animals" cremating (frying) cats on daily basis? when there is no designated season?

That would be way too cruel to kill pets with a open season. But to me feral cats are not pets just damn problem.

I've seen our neighbors cat in the woods between our houses and around our house stalking prey. It's killed a few monks and squirrels I've noticed over the last few years. Fuggar scratched up our front porch glider upholestry and sprays around our landscaping. I set up my TC on our front porch and got him twice in the late and early hours but all you see is a white cat due to inferred videoing. Gonna keep it on file if I ever need it as proof.

The neighbor has money and is a bit snooty but we get along. He called me up at work once about 9 o'clock in the evening and I'm working night shift. He was saying he heard a gun shot then moments later his cat came limping into his barn all bloody. Wondered if I knew anything about it?!? WTF??? I said no, I'm at work! He was livid and had the cops out there and everything saying he was pressing charges if they find out who did it! Pfft, if he kept the fucker in his house it never would have happened!

It wasn't me but the two other neighbors next door to us prolly know who did do it but nothing ever came from it. The vet bill cost the owner $1300 but less than 6 months the feline was back to killing stuff again, mostly to play with it after it kills it.

I will say they're killing machines but cat owners and their "my precious fluffy doesn't do anything bad" attitude is just annoying! Running over dog shit in my yard with the lawn mower is getting pretty old TOO, but that's another story! Lol

Best bow shot of my career was on a feral cat. Ear holed him with a G5 Montec on the walk at 42 yards. As much luck as skill, or more so, but I made me chuckle.

I like cats have had several in my life had them declawed and neutered and they stayed in the house! If you love your cat you wouldn't let it run loose, they won't stay in your yard. Cats on the loose are no different that a fix or coyote and are treated accordingly

I pulled my cam card today and the damn 2 black and yellow cats from last deer season are still running around on the farm. Won't be for long if I have my sights on them. Every time during deer season when the cats came into the food plot the deer stared at them and left.

That's a hell of an accomplishment. My best was walking at 28. But I cheated and used a rangefinder. The slick Trick turned him inside out though. Now I could tell some stories of the shots I made from my mustang with the Remington Targetmaster
