Looks like we will be driving up Thursday night to the Elmore/Genoa area. I plan to fish the Sandusky or possibly the Maumee Friday and maybe Sat. If anyone else is headed out, I'd like to put some faces to the screen names. Try and redeem myself a bit and prove that I'm not a total dumbass… I'll be bringing my waders and a couple rods.

I did that once.

Fishing wasn't too hot so we rode icebergs down the river. My buddy actually fell off and went swimming that day.

We lived to tell but he did kill himself ten years later on another attempt on his self motivated "heroic escapades". :smiley_chinrub:

I have probably 200 Russian river flies left from AK. Most of them are solid black. We use them just like the floating jig set up. The gap on the hook is legal…wondering if anyone has ever used black to catch Walleye. These flies are all hand made with rabbit fur, and I could trim them down to be smaller for a slower float… The are big and ugly as sin, but they kill the salmon. Anyone ever try using black on Eye's?

Never caught em in the rivers on black but I've got a shit load over the reefs on purple. Seems the best colors in the river are usually chartreuse, orange, pink, white, and any combination of those. If I were you, and needed to catch a walleye for my daughter, I'd leave the flies at home and stick to what works... Floating jigs.

I plan on taking the floating jig set up. I was getting my things together and moved the flies, so it popped in my head. Thought happened, so I thought I'd ask.

Got the reel spooled up! Getting pumped up!!!

I will be fishing Thursday morning up there, then I should be back Saturday afternoon. I have a nephew that makes his own flies and has had days up there where he outfishhes the jigs. But its usually later in the run when the smaller jacks are in there thick. But I guarantee you can catch them

Trolling this time of year is a waste of gas lol!!! Get yourself some big purple haired jigs (i call them barney lures) and drift and cast.

Not true at all. The bulk of the fish staging just outside the reefs before the peak of the spawn are best targeted by trolling cranks. I'll bet my life savings if you went out there tomorrow and drifted with your hair jigs, you'd get out-fished by the trollers, and it wouldn't even be close. Now... a few weeks from now... That may be a different story.

My timing has always been a little off lol!!!
Lol. Don't worry, I shoved my size 13 foot in my mouth today. Well, kind of. We trolled for a good 2.5 hours today and never hooked a walleye. Changed things up and drifted with hair jigs, caught one within 5 minutes. Lol. That was the only fish we caught today though. It was really tough out there.

Yep we started back in just as it was getting windy. A shame though... It was nearly flat calm for a couple hours there at midday.
